Hi friend, weather to wear a Burkha or not, should be left to individual muslim lady, and there should be no dictat regarding it, either from religious bodies or from government. At some places, like in voter's card, where it is essential to have photo identity, there the muslim ladies should allow the authority to take picture without Burkha, to ensure their identity. I have a feeling that many muslim ladies, might be interested in coming out of BURKHA, and walk in society withot burkha! May be! Happy myLotting

Yes, it is quite proper and noble for a country to reinforce its cultural aspirations where these do not impinge excessively on the freedom of the individual. France like many European countries values face to face contact and thus confronting one that covers their face runs contrary to such values. Neither should it be regarded as impinging on personal liberty excessively, as might be the case where wearing of such items a religious observance rather than a cultural one. This then is very clear all the best urban

I live in a country where Islam is the official religion. Most of the muslim women are wearing scarfs as part of their reliess of covering up ranging from the fashionable and colorful to the all black walking curtains. They don't realize that the only ones you may have to be wary of are the walking curtains and even then, they don't bother with the heathens anyway. For most part, we all coexist quite happily. We are a multiracial, multicultural country. We have enormous amount of tolerance. I can understand outsiders' concern however.

Hi siliguri, I am a Muslim. The Islamic dress for woman is covering up body except face and fore-arms. Quran advices to draw their headscarf/cloak over the chest. Covering the face is not obligatory, however the wifes of prophet used to do that. And It is more advisable to cover their face if they want to cover. I don't know what exactly the policy forwarded by France. If they think covering face prevent identification, face could be shown where ever necessary like official matters, security checkup, voting etc. Banning the Burqa was not a nice decision and its against to religious freedom. However If don't prevent woman to use 'Pardah' or any dress that cover body except face & fore-arms, still a woman can live there as a Muslim. I heard that France even against to the head scarf which do not cover face, if it is truth. Which denies the freedom or freewill of practicing religion. Peace.

I understand and appreciate their customs. However, the Burka is a form of dress that hides the individual behind a veil. This does pose a problem in many societies, where if the custom were allowed publicly it could interfere with safety. Someone could easily don the Burka and hide behind it. Some Women who wear the Burka have refused to show their face for drivers license and state id pictures, and that is against the law here in the US. Our faces must be fully visible in the photo so we may be identified. I am against wearing the Burka in public places for these reasons. Their faces should be visible for all to see.

i guess its already part of their religion and we cant do something about it. though i just wonder why those girls really need to wear those kinds of clothes if they can just simply wear anything that makes them feel so comfortable. they look like prisoner with their clothes as they tried to hide every thing. the only difference is they can walk around unlike the real prisoner.

this is correct but no religion could be first of all be bigger than any country. and the citizens must also consider this that these things are doing for better. i think this is related to some identity problem. as in our country also you have to go thorugh the checking in a metro station but you could point out as a breaching of your rights. but you know why it is being done here. i think they should also change some things and give a freedom to the lady as all the men have in their religion.

I think that we should not only stop this policy thinking that it is something that all the muslim girls should follow but it is also that it is effecting their personal freedom. If the girls want to wear burkha, then they can surely wear it, and if they don't want to wear, they won't wear, so we should leave everything to their wish. We shouldn't creat such rules that point out someone's religion or freedom. And I am completely against it. There is no question for me to stand for it.

hi! well, I guess that they are some religious reasons that make them wear these things on their heads, but I think the policy is right, because it is not just a religion it is something like slavery to me and i just can't understand it. why should women wear them? why should they wear them everywhere and if not they get even killed sometimes? it is so ridiculous!

Well..i cannot say thats right or wrong. They are very religious and believe it their custom. Unless they themselves feel if its not needed, they can remove it. But few of my friends, dont wear it , only very religious people do that.

No no country should preclude Muslim women from wearing burka, only Muslims should ensure that no one misuses burka by using it for terrorist activities. If they are able to ensure it I do not think anyone would have objection to Muslim women wearing burka.

As said it is individuals choice. But when a burkha clad woman goes out they should even respect their rules. Like a woman who joined a french class had her conditions about not talking facing men in the class, and reading from back of the class etc were even fulfilled. But she still denied about talking to men while participatimg in discussions. I know its against their terms to talk to stranger men, but in such a class they are bound to do that. So why get involved in such things at all? or they could have made theor conditions clear in the start itself

It is a gray area. If you live in a country that prohibits this then you should abide or get out of the country. Now that is easy for me to say since I don't wear one and not a muslim. However, there are security issues that is very concerning with this. With the Burka, the whole face is covered and if you are a criminal, you can easily use this as a disguise. No one would know who you are. Just put yourself in the different situation. If you are not an Arab/Muslim and you go to Saudi Arabia and start drinking which is not allowed there. Do you think the Arabians are not going to execute you? I think in the West, the politicians tolerate it to get votes but it is such a gray area and it needs to be compromise between the parties involved. My personal opinion is have the head gear but don't cover the face.

I think Burka is a type of social evil that prevails in the Muslim culture. Women are also human being. They also think of their independence. I think this evil indicates the orthodox nature of Muslims. This made women despite of their rights and freedom.Every where they live in dark. Nowhere they can show their beauty(if a women is conscious of her beauty). So i think this should be eradicated from the society so that a bird can feel free.

I have found that if i was to go to other countries i would have to abide by their laws aswell as rules, the same as if i lived in another country.I feel like the reason why countrys do not like people covering their faces is that you never know who is under that the same as when we enter a building we are not allowed to keep a crash helmet on as you can not see the persons face.

I think that is a personal thing. To forbid or to obligate to wear are both wrong. But I think that cause many problem. For instance - if at work you work face in face with clients or just have to keep some office style. The employer has the rights to make the rules - if you don't like the rules, you don't take the job. But because it comes up to religion it can be treated like a discrimination.
