Ok all of you Aussies out there. There has not been a discussion in the Australia interest for a while, so I thought I would start one.
Football season is upon us once more in Australia and I would like to ask this question of all of the Australians on here.
Which is your favourite football code in Australia? Rugby League or Australian Rules Football?
These are only the two most common. Soccer and Rugby Union are also played, but do not receive the same media attention.
I prefer Aussie Rules as I grew up with it and Rugby league was something that I knew existed and that was about it! I was very happy to watch the start of the new season over tha weekend and see my team get off to a great start to the year.
So what do you choose? AFL or NRL?

Hi Rawbill!
If I may come in, football amuses me and we are a nation of cricket and football. Even though we never really could go international in recent times we do have great inter state football tournament.
Happy watching your fave team win! Good Luck!

Really! I thought Aussies are as much or more of just cricket lovers as us! Soccer is much popular here and I remember our fathers used to take day off with all sorts of favorite food and cheering and applauding! Gone are those days but still we have seasonal soccer craze.

Yes, we do love our cricket, but as it is played in summer and summer time is a very social time and we all love the beach so much, I guess this keeps the crowds away a bit. They have been getting some big crowds for some of the 20/20 games recently though. I think they are very popular as they are on at night when it is cooler and only last for around the same amount of time as a football game. For some people, cricket goes too long and it can get too hot sitting there all day at the game watching it!

Hi Mimpi, you may come and visit our Aussie discussion...LOL
What type of football is popular in India? Soccer?
I know you are cricket lovers over there. Cricket as you know is popular here too, but Australian Rules football, which is played on the same grounds in the winter months, gets much larger crowds attending than cricket does.

Neither! I cannot stand the start of the football season! I feel irritated just by listening to the game on T.V. let alone watching it! My husband is into AFL and he’s a Collingwood/ Dockers supporter and he definitely enjoys watching a game or six! I don’t have too much of a problem with him enjoying it as long as I don’t have to! I know I sound like such a bad sport, maybe it’s because my ex was a footballer and we lived and breathed football; it controlled our lives so much that I grew to hate it! If I had to choose a team under portest though I would say Fremantle Dockers!

What! You don't like footy Paula!
At least your husband is smart enough to follow the mighty magpies but I don't think Fremantle is a good choice!
Just kidding. At least you (sort of) follow the best code of football in the land! Aussie Rules!
