Looking for information on St. Pierre et Miquelon

I am planning to travel to the islands of St. Pierre et Miquelon this summer and was wondering if anyone had any information about the islands. Is it worth it to travel there? DO you need a rental car or is everything in walking distance? What is there in terms of activities? I know they are located of Newfoundland and they belong to France but I would like to know more about the area before committing to a trip there. Thanks!
