It was my friend's birthday last weekend. And one of the present is a puppy. It's cute. Like an hour later she pulled me aside, she told me, she did mention to the giver few months back that she might consider to have a dog, but she's not ready now, and she asked me " What am I supposed to do now?" I never give somebody a living thing as a gift, not even a beautiful plan. I thing this type of gift is one of the riskiest thing for somebody that you love or like. They may like it, they may take offense, or like my friend she don't know what to do right now, because she's not ready. It's true she wants a dog, but she want to get it when she's ready on her term. And a pet is a commitment of both time and money, and a responsibility - it's a living creature, which only remain living at the expense of the owner. So have you ever gift someone or receive living things as a gift?

I don't buy ppl pets as gifts b/c I feel like pets are a lifetime commitment and the person getting the pet needs to make that commitment on their own. I have bought gifts like fish for someone who already has a fishtank but that's about my limit. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Fish probably little easier to take care and like you said the person already has the fishtank. But pets like dog or cat i think it really need more commitment.

I think it is a good idea to buy a pet for some people as gift. Of course, it is also important to understand in advance the receipient's likings. Not all may like pets. I have never gave pets as gift to anyone before but this sounds a great idea to me.

Just make sure they really want it, because like my friend she's really get a hard time right now either keeping it or get rid of it.

I have never given an animal as a gift, and I don't think that I ever would with one exception. The one exception that I can think of is for my own children because I know that ultimately I would be the one that was responsible for the animal anyway. For someone that didn't live under my roof, I would never be able to give this kind of a gift because of the fact that I really wouldn't know how the animal was going to be treated.
