Now Obama is going after Creatures of the Ocean!!

United States

Not content with attempting to destroy our life in America now he wants to destroy life in the Oceans. Is there no end to this man's broken promises? At least the whales will not have tea parties. Any thoughts on how they could rebel?? After three years of backroom negotiations and closed-door meetings, a secret deal has emerged that would re-start the cruel commercial slaughter of our ocean's great whales. One of the environmental movement's greatest achievements - about to be harpooned for the sake of profits and politics. So who's behind this secret deal? Well you won't be surprised by some of the usual suspects - Japan, Norway, and Iceland - as they never stopped killing whales despite the 1986 moratorium on commercial whaling. What might shock you, however, is that a major player in these negotiations is the United States! That's right, the same country that for decades has led the international fight to stop the cruel and unnecessary commercial slaughter of whales...whose president promised to be a leader on wildlife protections...is now behind the deal that would reintroduce commercial whaling. In fact, four out of the last five closed-door meetings that produced this plan have been held on American soil. This is a deal that was literally "made in the USA!" Since President Reagan first championed passage of the international ban on commercial whaling in 1986, every American president has reasserted our nation's strong leadership role in the fight to save whales. But now - on President Obama's watch - the United States is about to support a plan that will reintroduce legalized commercial whaling - this despite his campaign assurances that he would strengthen protections for whales. During his campaign, President Obama promised that the U.S. would provide leadership in "strengthening the international moratorium on commercial whaling" and that "allowing Japan to continue commercial whaling is unacceptable." Bloody Waters As proposed, this plan would overturn the ban on commercial whaling and bloody the waters of the Southern Ocean Sanctuary by: * Approving the killing of whales for commercial purposes by Japan around Antarctica and in the North Pacific; * Adding new rights for Japan to slaughter whales for profit in its coastal waters; * Allow continued whaling by Iceland and Norway in violation of long-agreed scientific procedures and the global whaling ban. http://www.kintera.org/cms.asp?id=966589&campaign_id=29560&msource=DR100319003&tr=y&enString=llQORPWPOqLYJfPWJjKZIkOUJeKIITRGTWQSPqN1KnI0IhO3IyG&auid=6131199

You have simply quoted from the website and haven't given any new or corroborative evidence at all. Where is the evidence that "the United States is about to support a plan that will reintroduce legalized commercial whaling"? I see NONE! Whiteheather, you have a right to bash Obama if you so wish (and I might be convinced if there were anything to convince me) but at least use some concrete and substantial evidence and DO NOT just reproduce the vague ramblings of ranting websites when you do so! We have enough idiot fringe people here already: I did at least think that you were sensible enough not to join them.

Here are some links that are not vague ramblings: Panel proposes support for whaling in exchange for limits http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/22/AR2010022202365.html Will the U.S. Renege On Support For Commercial Whaling Moratorium? http://environment.change.org/blog/view/will_the_us_renege_on_support_for_commercial_whaling_moratorium Does the U.S. support commercial whaling? http://members.greenpeace.org/blog/greenpeaceusa_blog/2010/03/01/does_the_u_s_support_commercial_whaling And I thought you were more of a gentleman and perhaps intelligent enough to do some research before trying to insult me.

As a candidate, Obama wrote on a Greenpeace questionnaire; "As president, I will ensure that the U.S. provides leadership in enforcing international wildlife protection agreements, including strengthening the international moratorium on commercial whaling. Allowing Japan to continue commercial whaling is unacceptable." - Barack Obama, March 16, 2008 Greenpeace candidate questionnaire

As yours is the only response still remaining I assume that the other two were deleted. Please indulge my curiosity did you post the tags and report this discussion?

I don't know much about this story, so I can't really comment in detail. But I can say with absolutely certainty that President Obama isn't nearly as noble as most supporters believe. The guy's a politican. To that end, what do folks expect? Now, I don't have all the answers to life like the Owl man up top. I personally don't know what the world's all about. It takes all kinds and I'm learning as I go. So this kind of stuff doesn't surprise me, regardless of its validity. If it's a misrepresentation of the Presiden't intent, that's to be expected. If the President is actually giving an "oh well" to the whale community, that's also to be expected. Neither shock me; neither get my ire up. I feel for the whales. I do. They're just swimming along, no inkling that they're commodities, and end up whacked. But I'm also a meat eater who doesn't shed many tears for all the animals killed to sit neatly on my plate. However, I think species needs some protections. Mankind shouldn't be eliminating entire species from the planet. But then I'm also a hypocrite in that regard. Like the smelt in California whose protection is keeping 40,000 farmers out of work and on the bread lines. I think farmers should have their water and the smelt should have to be relocated to a preserve if people wish to have that particular species survive. And I see, at least in the farmers' instance, Obama and fellow social progressives pandering to their base are still choosing the smelt over farmers (unless I missed a recent headline saying the farmers got their water and livelihoods back). But I also believe that decision is to keep the wildlife and nature folks in America from raising holy hell and not so much about wanting to preserve a species of minnow. So, save the small fishes, to hell with the bigguns? I don't know. Now my head hurts!

So sorry you have a sore head but your response is very interesting. I also do not think that man's greed is an acceptable reason for wiping a specific species from the face of the earth. I guess that what really irks me is that Obama signed a declaration, during his campaign, committing himself as president to further protect the whale, as many presidents before him, from this unacceptable practice BUT of course as with all his other campaign promises they were just the means used to gain the presidency. I think your last sentence would be very apt if it was the opposite way around... because it seems Obama wants to save the big fishes (CEO's, big businesses, etc.) and to hell with the little fishes (we the people of the USA).

"I think your last sentence would be very apt if it was the opposite way around... because it seems Obama wants to save the big fishes (CEO's, big businesses, etc.) and to hell with the little fishes (we the people of the USA)." Brilliantly astute. Painfully accurate. And I'm jealous I didn't phrase it like that in the first place. And it does irk me that a man who ran on being a 180 from all other politicians is showing that he's much more of a politician than any before him. But at this point, I'm peeved more at the supporters who ignore it all and make excuses than I am at the man and his actions. Supporters call it all talking points and smears, but I only needed to hear what Obama said to Plumber Joe before I realized he was a leftist progressive maroon that would do a slew of things in office I didn't approve of and that would hinder private industry and personal wealth and opportunity. If a snake bites me because someone brought it into my house, I'm not so sure I should be mad at the snake. I'ma be lookin' for the fool that brought it in!

Well, it doesn't really surprise me. It seems like everyday he's doing some dumb, outrageous thing to tick of Americans. I hope he is outed from office soon before he does so much damage that we can't repair it. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Amen to that. What really gets me is that there are so many gullible people who actually have faith in the man. They fail to realize that when our country comes crashing down they will also be in it. They do not get a fee pass which excludes them.
