How would you feel about the bulge?

When I started out in this company where I work for now, I was fairly fit. There was a lot of manual labor in the previous company. It was a small shop, where not only did I do all the paperwork, I also did all the heavy lifting. I guess I’ve grown comfortable in my current position. So comfortable, that I’ve started to have a belly-bulge. As I was walking on the floor today, one of the guys on the floor started smiling, pointed at his gut, then pointed at mine, and then smiled and showed me a thumb up sign. I didn’t know if I was going to be happy, or insulted, or what. How would you feel? Is it time for a work-out yet?

Hi Bounce! I don't know how old you are but this is what happens when one becomes "middle-aged"! I would have given that guy a half of a peace sign to his thumbs up! The summer is coming and there will be more to do outside. Everyone gains a little during the winter! Don't worry. Just be happy your here and able to watch HOCKEY! :) What a treat, huh?

I like that half-a-peace sign! And it is even specific which half it is! I am excited about summer. I'm sure there are lots of things to do. I've already made plans with the kids for activities after dinner. A couple of weeks ago, I bought each a hockey stick and a ball. We're going to play some roller hockey on the street in front of the house. My 3-year old is having a birthday on the weekend, and guess what he wants, roller blades!

That's great! My son started roller blading before he started ice skating. He still skates everyday in the driveway. Good practice for the ice.

Hey bounce! I have the same problem! I have gained about ten pounds and don't know what to do about it! And it is mostly in the middle! It makes me sick to look in the mirror, but I can't stop eating! I hate exercising and I am now uncomfortable walking! I am not obese, just a bit overweight and at my age that is not a good to even 10 pounds to much! So, I have been upset about it and still can't seem to do anything about it! I have an exercise piece of equipment called a "Power Rider" which I have had for years now! It used to be in the bedroom and I used it hold my handbags until my boyfriend got mad and moved it out of there! Now I need to set it up in the livingroom and use it!

Hi Opal. Your power rider reminds me of our exercise room in the clubhouse of my complex. It is just about 300 yards away from my front door. It has a treadmill, a stationary bike, some weights, and exercise balls. It even has a TV and DVD player so you can load up anything when you want too. The only problem I have with the exercise room, is that it is 300 yards way too far.

bounce hi Oh I hate my bulge as I am so big, and I have to lose weight here where I have no real say so over what I eat except to just eat half of whats on my plate, which I have been trying to do so exercise is now my main problem. I do have an exercise band and one five poung weigh. I cannot lift my left arm due to shoulder joint replacement, when the surgeon cut then replaces muscles even with two months of physical therapy i did not get back much of the movement I had before in my left arm. thus I used to do floor exercises and now I cannot.yet that would really work, wonder if I could do them on the bed.

Hello Hatley. Is there a place where you are at that you can take a walk? You might get better exercise just walking a certain distance everyday. It might not be much, but it's a start. ...geez, I should listen to my own advice Hehe

We're on the same boat. I was not fit before but I used to be slimmer than I am now. I guess it's not the issue of being comfortable. I think it boils down to the fact that as we grow old, our skin is currently as firm as it used to be that's why belly starts to show. To remedy this, I would exercise during breaks. Tilting from side to side every once in a while and few sit-ups every now and then. Results are not instant but you can see and feel the difference. Try to move around a lot as well to burn calories and lessen calorie intake. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip atv818. Sometimes, when I feel like it, I do squeeze in a little exercise at work. Aside from walking around the production floor, sometimes I run stairs. When all of the production people have gone home, I run up and down a fire exit. And like you said, the results are not instant, but I do feel the difference.

That really is the bad thing about climbing higher. You get lazier in taking care of your physical fitness because you want to get more out of your job which makes you sit in front of a computer all day. I dont think the guy meant to insult you. He just made you realise that you need to begin to do something about it. So you could make the decision before you get used to the bulge and think nothing of it and then it begins to grow bigger....lol

Hello wealthydavid. Yes, I have decided to do something about it. And I have started to do some exercise and walking/jogging around the house. I know he didn't mean to insult me, it is just such a wake up call. Thanks for the response.

There is a big hill at the back of my house which takes about 20 minutes to walk or climb. I've tried it last week. I was panting the whole way. I'm thinking of doing it regularly. Maybe even everyday like you do. I'd say goodluck in our quests! To reduce our guts.
