when does a kitten officially become an adult and eat adult food?

its been awhile since i have had a kitten that i cant remember! i have heard a year and i have heard 3 years and it wouldnt make as much of a problem if my other (adult) cat wasnt on special diet food for urinary problems to where i dont want to feed that too early.. the kitten has been getting into every ones food (his, the other cats and the dogs) but i dont have a vet visit for awhile for his shots and was wondering if anyone here knew?
when is a kitten a grown cat to where he eats adult food?

ok then i think when i finish up the last bag of kitten food i will switch him then

the adult food being prescription for urinary probs so im afraid it might not have all the nutrients and stuff he doesnt need in it.. i know the vet said it woudlnt hurt the other adult one but with him still growing im not sure

Hi! I believe they would be considered adults when the mother cat does not allow them to drink from her milk... Based on my observation... ^_^

my kitten was already weened and i had him on kitten food but then he just started eating the other so i started giving him both to make sure he was getting all the nutrition he needed and eventually he just wanted the other.. seems like he is doing ok

I really dont know when 
when a kitten of mine suddenly joins his or her mom while eating adult cat food then i know hes ready for it already.But its always fun to watch as your kittens grow and mature. Sometimes i tend to play with them when they are still kittens and when they are all grown up then they still want to play the same trick over and over again! cats can be really so entertaining and cute all the time

mine was abandoned by his mother and bottle feed so i cant gage it on when he stopped nursing
