Since it's come up in the news recently... Has anyone heard the song (I mean REALLY paid attention to the lyrics) AND seen the video? There's been a big stink in the media because the video was filmed "guerilla", meaning that none of the people in the background that Erykah passed by were paid actors or agreed to be on the film. The video was shot as she walked without a care in the world, and then the nudity in the film. Erykah revealed in interviews that she was very scared initially because she has a slightly negative body image right now, as she's given birth recently and a fear that she would be arrested by police for finally becoming nude. She also said that the video was to represent shedding away negative aspects of the past. A metamorphisis, as the "tattoo" on her back said "EVOLVING". I LOVE this video and the message behind both the song and the video. It angers me that people are making such a huge deal out of it. We can run around in public in bikinis and that's acceptable. Many bikinis are SKANT, and cover less than her bra and panties did in the video. There towns that make tradition out of mooning people as a train passes every year. There was not such a fuss over the video that featured people streaking. Let's not forget all the ones with explicit lyrics that are promoting drug use, abuse, violence, and are generally degrading. I think that the message she is trying to convey is genuine and positive. It saddens me that so many people would see it otherwise.
