So close...but just missed it

Parent teacher conferences are today and tomorrow at my son's school. I had my meeting with my son's teacher right after school today. She was going over some things with me and showed me my son's report card. She said he missed Honor Roll by ONE letter grade. He is having a bit of trouble where creative writing is concerned and that one class made him miss honor roll. Something to look forward to next quarter at school I guess. Do your kids make the honor roll in school?

That is terrific! Good for him. I don't have children, but my sister and I always made the honor roll. I never really felt good about it. It was expected of us. I mean my parents always let us know they were proud of us, but I never felt I was accomplishing much.

I was on the honor roll a few times in school, but not every time. I got decent grades, but I guess I did not try very hard. I slacked off a lot in school especially in high school. I got decent grades because I remembered things that got said in class not because I studied.

I'd cram the night before a test. Not a good way to do it, but it worked okay. My sister on the other hand would study like a person should.

My older son is being homeschooled now ( 6 months now) but when he was at school, he was the class topper in all areas...except Sport in which he participated (and usually got a medal but more because he didn't have much competition)but wasn't really good at. His grades in all the subjects were quite high and he has been doing quite well right from kindergarten. He has always got the 'All-Rounder' Award since he was in Kindergarten too...and last year the All-Rounder Award was decided between all the classes from the primary section (unlike the previous years where it was class-wise) and despite being the youngest in the group, he won it. It was a proud moment for us.

Well, that's great that your son is doing well in school! My children are all over the place. My oldest does great at working independently - we don't have to hound her to do her schoolwork. She tries her hardest and is an average student, which is just fine with us since we know she is putting in the effort. She did make the honor roll at least once all on her own! My middle kid is potentially an honor roll student but lacks the drive to do homework (much like her mother was) so that tends to hurt her grades. My youngest doesn't care much for school but excels in math and is getting by in everything else. Makes for interesting parenting!

Not always but when they do, I am very excited about it. There are always certain subjects that give different kids a harder time than others. My girls both struggle with Social Studies..lol..I did read that boys are often better at that particular subject than girls are. Girls are generally better with English and languages. Take care.
