Just check out the TV listings... The Sound of Music is on! Has anyone noticed if The Great Escape, BenHur or Zulu are there this time? What other films do you notice cropping up time after time at Holiday times? Maybe its more common here with there being fewer TV channels?? Or, if you're not in the UK, does it happen there too?

Hiya Wizzy, Here I am posting for the second time as it swallowed it all up the first time around. Ben Hur was on last week and so was The Sound of Music. Ben Hur was shown of Fathers Day which was the Saint José Day 19th of March sorry that was the week before last. Anyway we have not had Jesus of Nazareth on yet I suppose that might be on Sunday in accordance with the Day and all that. We have seen Gladiators which is a Film I love to watch and Al Pacino playing the Devil in that Film I can never remember the name of but anyway he plays it well. The Holy Processions through the Streets of Malaga and Seville have also been shown only on the News here. Maybe some parts of Spain have had it on but we have not. The never ending Football and Tennis is on plus the never ending adverts to go with it. So we zap in between adverts and watch two films at the same time sometimes. I don´t really watch them properly because I know they will be on another time and I can either record them or something like that. We love watching Ben Hur here as Charlton Heston filmed "El Cid" in Spain as well part of the reason but also because of the Gladiator scenes and the chariot races they all love that too. "Man In the Iron Mask" was on but they never tell you what time it´s on so by the time I got in it was already halfway over I sat and watched the rest and shed a few tears at the end. We have not seen Spartaco yet which I like seeing till it gets to the end and then I don´t ever want to see my beloved Tony Curtis end up like that or Kirk Douglass either. I like watching the Processions in Sevilla and Malaga but this year I´m afraid they have been pretty mean and I suppose it´s all on paid for Television it´s really lovely to watch same as the Fiestas in Valencia.

Oh! I dont believe that! I was 3 lines down and mine just disappeared too! It doesn't usually do that till I hit submit... I was saying how annoying it is and that I try to remember to copy & paste before I hit submit on long responses I dont know what's on from today as I haven't bought the TV guide yet - I could check the online listings really but I'm not that bothered. Saturdays are usually rubbish with all the tedious, fake "reality" shows...

Hiya Wizzy, Alas the Reality Shows are on a long list over here there are so many of them I have lost count. But being better than watching those silly adverts except for the one with the Babies in we just hop from one to the other sometimes not all the times. I am starting to rebuild my Dvd library of Films when I can get to find out something worth recording that is.

I have heard that England is notorious for having like maybe 4 channells and it has been this way for a time. I have seen parodies of this on shows like "The Young Ones." I feel like England has a huge amount of theatre, cluture, etc. It is said that London is the next Hollywood. Is it really still slim pickings? I can go to http://www.ninjavideo.net and watch recent movies or a lot of cable shows from BBC or America. And it's free.

We have 5 channels on 'regular' TV but there are several more you can get with a "Freeview" box - you just buy it as a one off. Also there are a number of 'packages' via Sky etc that you can purchase for a monthly fee and other 'pay per view' channels. We do have plenty of thriving theatres in the cities and provincial areas. Its just a sort of standard joke that certain films will be aired at Bank Holidays on the basic channels.

We usually have one of the National Lampoons movies on.. there are several...and they usually have them all on.Other then that it is pretty much all over the place with the shows.

Yes its the same story in our local channels. Ben Hur and other classics are usually shown around this period. I have never seen Ben Hur... cos I was always afraid of the violence shown in this film. I watched some scenes but I never managed to watch the whole film.

I'm not sure if i've ever really watched it either. I'm not into violence or historical epics. "El Cid" used to have frequent screenings too..

It's funny because when I saw that "The Sound of Music" was on I laughed and even groaned, but would you believe it I ended up flicking channels, catching it and ending up watching it whilst I work, sad I know and it's still on right now whilst I type this. Well if you include Christmas Holidays then you can bet on "It's a Wonderful Life", "Miracle on 34th Street" and more recently the annual showing of "Love Actually". Easter always brings out the annual showing of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and for some strange reason "The Love Bug" gets shown most Easters. On a sort of reverse note those annual favourites like "Star Wars", "Superman" and even disaster movies such as "The Towering Inferno" and "The Poseidon Adventure" don't seem to be getting their regular airings anymore.

I can hear that my husbands watching it in the lounge and it must be the best thing on because he has been slating it for YEARS! Oh, yes, The Poseidon Adventure used to be a certainty didnt it? I didnt notice if "Jesus of Nazareth" is on... maybe they thought it was a bit incongruous with Mark thingy in Holby City??
