How many hours of sleep do you get in a night?

Philippines
April 2, 2010 2:17pm CST
During work days, I usually get only around 1 to 6 hours of sleep in a night. Atrocious, huh? This is because my schedule is at 6AM to 3PM because we're serving Australian clients. Also, our login system is so strict: once the system time hits 6:10 PM, you're marked absent for the day. Tough, huh? So how about you guys, how long do you sleep in a night?

Give it ten years. You'll be sleeping a full 8 hours by then.

Hmm. I wonder what you meant by that?

Haha yeah, I figured, but I wanted to clarify. Sad thing though. When people hit their 50s to 60s, they tend to sleep less and less. I guess it's because their bodies already lack melatonin so they can't regulate sleep cycles as sharply as when they were young. Well, I'll consider it a blessing by then! I've always wanted to live the 4-hour-a-night lifestyle! Heheh! Thanks for clarifying, Andy!

You are young. Young people can sleep less. But that doesn't last forever. Sorry!

hi neny, before when I was still single I can sleep about 7 to 8 hours a day. I sleep early, after eating dinner at 7pm, I'll watch tv for awhile and then sleep at around 8 or 9pm. My work starts at 7am and it is just a 15 min ride from my home. But now that I have my precious little angel, I sleep about 4 to 5 hours a day because of her and go to work at 7am. It's tough but that's life

Wow. But I'm glad that your baby is giving your life purpose, meaning, and a reason to give up sleep. :) I salute you for being a great mommy! :)

Now i feel like a panda bear with dark circles :(. I dab a concelear now to cover it up. But you know i am ready to be awake always for her whenever she needs me. Thats what mums do right. hehe

Haha, good on you gals for relishing being moms. I still dread the day, though I'm starting to get excited about becoming a mommy someday. For now, I sleep anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. Hehehe!

oh wow, that's crazy. I usually get 8 hours of sleep a day, I love sleeping and that's really one thing that I won't really give up no matter how much work I have to do or something. LOL. When I get less hours of sleep, I would feel groggy and really irritated, and I try to sleep during the lunch break if I can so that I can just take back the lost sleep that I had.

Oh wow. Me, I can never sleep during middays. Even though I work from home, once I'm awake, I'm awake. That's it. If I sleep, it's really during the 16th to 18th hours of my day. I figured that if we have 24 hours of life a day, 16 to 18 of these are waking hours, 6 to 8 are for sleeping. Usually, my body cries for sleep on the 16th or 18th hour of my existence. Heheh.

Haha, this was posted when I was fresh out of college. Apparently, one's body changes over time, so mine has changed by now. Today, I can no longer deal with only an hour of rest. I really have to have at least 6 or 8, I noticed.

I only get 5-6 hours of sleep from studying for quizzes and exams. We always have quizzes everyday and it's like I have 3-5 long chapters to study, I got my notes but then I also need to read the book to study the keypoints. Im trying to get 8 hours of sleep while i'm on still on vacation!I need to have my skin glowing
• Philippines

Haha! Wow. Again, I admire your priorities. :D Hahahaha! Keep it up, friend! Personally, the skin-glowing-because-I-sleep-enough seems to not apply to me. I think my skin looks the same whether I get enough sleep or not. Tough! But congratulations, you have 2 whole months to keep your skin beautiful. Hahaha!

I usually sleep at an average of 6 hours every night. Regardless whether I am tired or not. It seems that my body has adjusted to that hours of sleep already. When I was a child, I usually sleep at an average of 8 hours. But now, if I sleep to much I really feel tired and feel so sleepy if I sleep to much. I guess what you are doing is really tough. But I think your body and system can always adjust to your activities as well as your sleeping time. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Wow. So you only work online? You don't have a "day job" in a brick-and-mortar company outside? Well then, hello there, fellow VA! :D So how was it, so far? Are you enjoying VA life? :D

I usually end up going to bed late during the weekdays for some strange so it's usually about 11-12 on a weekday but on a weekend it's usually 10-11.

HI THERE... its very less these days... i keep on watching movies..listen to music and surfing late night these days so i lack a lot of sleep...i sleep late at around 3 at night and wake up arund 7.30-8 in the morning...
• Philippines
3 Apr 10
Wow. I guess I'm guilty of that, too. If there's any way I could discipline myself to actually work more than to surf more, I bet I'd jump on that method ASAP. Like right now. I really need to pry myself off of MyLot. Heheh!

Yeow! With that little sleep, watch your stress level and immune system. Over time, sleep deprivation can just ruin your health. Maybe naps would help after you are done with work--a quick 20 minutes can work wonders. I like between 7-8 hours a night. I just can't seem to function on much less.
• Philippines
3 Apr 10
Yeah, I know... Normal people seem to be very stressed when sleep-deprived. I am the opposite. Make me lack sleep and I'm hyper like crazy. Yes, I know that modern medicine actually has that as near-gospel-truth, but I think my body is strange: there are days when I just need to weather the curve of a sleepy moment and I'm good to go. Yes, I take power naps too. They work wonders! But so far, I'm not even the least bit sickly. Haha! I guess it's because I'm fat, so all the fatness is insulating my body from the germs, heheh!

I think 6-8 hours of sleep isnt that bad. Once you get used to it. Its pretty easy. I usually go to sleep at 12-1AM and then i wake up at 6:30AM. On weekends i go to sleep like at 3am and wake up at 12am.

Wow. Hmmm. I think I could have that kind of lifestyle. I am changing my schedule again come Tuesday, so I'm going to have to find a sleep timeslot that'd work for me. Thanks for sharing, you just gave me a tip! :D

That would depend on my activities during the day. If I dont have to get up early then I would get 10-12 hours of sleep a night. But if I do need to get up early, I would only have about 6-7 hours of sleep at night, and for me that's already short. Ive always been a sleeper you see and Im alert at night, so even if I try to sleep early, if Im not that tired, then I still wont be able to get to sleep. But my body as some weird wiring. I mean, if I lack that 10 hours(at least) of sleep, then I would be able to catch up to it when I have the time. It would be up to me at what time to wake up too. If I think that I have to get up at 7am the next day, then I would exactly wake up on that hour. Again, its also my choice to snooze or get up already.LOL Like these days, I need to get up at 8AM from Monday-Saturday. I wouldnt be able to go to sleep until 1-2AM. I wouldnt feel tired during the week but come Sunday, the day when I dont have to go out of the house, I would usually wake up at 2PM. That's about 14 hours of sleep.

I am working in a business processing outsourcing company and our shift is 2pm to 11pm. But sometimes it is change to 3 or 4 so chances are, my body cannot anymore understand my sleeping time. So even if I sleep late, I usually wakes up just after sleeping 5 hours. I don't know what's the problem, I am now considering buying an air conditioner for my room so that I will not feel the hot summer time which I think is the key factor why I wakes up early.

Since having my daughter it all depends on how well she goes through the night. She is generally good at going to bed though thinks that morning starts at 5.00am often! On average I would say I probably have about 5-6 hours sleep a night

Taking in view the fact that I don't have a job Im going to sleep around 4.00am and get up around 10.00.It's awful because these hours of sleep are not "healthy",I consider. What I mean is that when I wake up I feel like going back to sleep. Happy myLotting!
• Philippines
3 Apr 10
Hmm. I think that that's just okay. Since you've gotten like 5 or 6 hours of sleep. It would have been more justified if you had a job, but then, there are times when we need to take a break from life and take stock of what we really wanted to do with ourselves. :) Are you a fresh graduate?
