Why was Google called Topeka?

Someone asked this question in a chatroom that I was at yesterday and I got cut off before I heard the reason for it.
My guess is that it was because it was April Fool's Day yesterday. However, I haven't had the chance to figure it out. Does anyone know? Speculations?

I will agree with you that it is a funny name. And I also imagine that it threw a lot of people through a loop.

I think that it was a combination of an April Fool's joke as well as something to do with the capital of Kansas temporarily renaming itself.
