I was driving over to my mom's today

And I spotted a sign that said "Charity Sale for Forgotten Friends." Now, the name sounded familiar, so I went around the block and went back. They were selling flowers to try and raise some money. Forgotten Friends is a mixed breed dog rescue group. Well, the flowers were BEAUTIFUL - and they were selling them from the yard where they were picked. So, I ran off to the bank and got some money and bought a vase of them for my mom. I had called my sister and let her know I was doing it, she's like "But I just got her flowers the other day." When I came into the Manor, people were telling me how beautiful the arrangement was, asking if it were for them - joking of course - and I took them up to mom's. My sister was gobsmacked when she saw them. "Those are even prettier than mine!" "And fresher, they were picked yesterday." So, have you ever run a charity sale? Have you ever stopped at one? Have you ever had flowers you didn't pick be this fresh for an arrangement? Wish I had a picture to post... drats!

We had a really rainy summer one year and no one was buying much at the Farmers' Market in my area. One of the Farmers brought in fresh flowers she had picked that morning. She had also picked some food. The flowers all went. They were mostly yellow or white. They were the brightest things on the dull day. Everyone bought some, so they bought her out of flowers. It was about the only thing that looked bright that day. I bought the last bunch.

Well, the flowers are doing well enough to still, I'm rather surprised that they are doing as well as they are - tho they are beginning to shatter

I think she will, she brightened up so much when she saw them. I have to admit that when my sister is there, she barely takes her eyes off her, but she only gets to see her in small bits so my sister is there a lot when she's in town.

I have to say, that the homeless around here that have dogs, the dogs look healthier than the people do. I don't give them any money either, but at least the dogs don't look sick. If they did, I'd probably be calling the police to see if the dog needs to be removed from the so-called owner...

They are really starting to drop off, but I need to get over and pull out the dying ones. Didn't have time when I dropped by this morning.

I go to charity sales when I see them and try to give them something. I'm a real sucker for animal charities and ones for kids. You must have had better weather recently than we did--it snowed 3" on March 25!--because our flowers in Ohio are just coming up. So glad you could get some beautiful flowers for your mom and help out the furbabies, too!

hi elicbxn well indeed that was a worthy cause and they sounded'like a beautiful flower arrangement too. I have never run a charity sale but bought a stuffed bear, a sweet little Koal bear at a charity affair for the new library.Oh yes I was give a huge armful of roses that had been used to decorate a library party for friends of the library, nobody wanted them so they insisted I take them home, they were fresh, just had beenused to decorate their party tables. Happy E aster

And a very happy Easter to you too. I've been sent home with flowers in the past - but never that many! I've done a garage sale for our Doctor Who club - just so we could raise $$ for a party, but it was a good party!

Hi Elic! That sounds so nice! And besides getting your Mom some really nice fresh flowers you were helping a charity! I love tag sales, charity auctions and will stop whenever I can to see what they have to sell! Now that the weather is getting nice there should be more to check out! You never know what you'll find! If I saw that sign I would have definitely stopped and bought some flowers too!

Oh, the charity was definitely a main part of why I went back in the first place, I probably would've kept on going if it just said "sale"

I love the smell of flowers. This is the time of year when there are lots of roadside sales of flowers. I have never bought any. My ex did but they were the kind you had to plant. I have a few in my yard and sometimes I pick them and bring them in, just to make the house smell better. Every time I have gotten an arrangement, they must not be real fresh. They usually last a few days and that is it. I have heard if they are fresh they should last longer than mine do.

I guess the biggest thing is that the flowers at the store or florist are bred to last a long time in the vase, and these aren't so much, but they were really beautiful.
