I'd leave it for a bit and go for a walk but I dont want that Goldilocks coming in and trashing the place. She'd be out of luck anyway because Baby Bear "dont live 'ere no more"... so nothing would be to her liking When did you last have porridge for breakfast and did you make it on the hob, in the microwave or in a slow-cooker?

is porridge the same as say"farina"? I used to eat it lots when I was a child. I make oatmeal, but not porridge. I had a dream a man tried to steal my box of instant oatmeal last night. A giant econom Wal-mart brand that I never bought b-4, no less. What's up with my weird dreams. And why do they call a stove a hob? It's my birthday today. Whoohooo! Gonna bite a chocolate bunnie's a$$!

First off HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Enjoy the bunny bums Porridge is probably much like oatmeal... someone stole a pack you never bought Almost as bad as my dream about my son coming home (that much is true) but I've had to call him to ask him if he will be bringing that circus carnival complete with acrobats, clowns and jugglers that I saw... The 'hob' is the top of the cooker... the hotplates or the gas rings. The stove is the whole thing... unless its a separate oven and hob of course

I remember my son asking for custard and chips (when I say chips, I dont mean potato chips which are "crisps" but proper English chips... which are wa-a-a-ay better than French fries) because he'd seen it on "Henry's Cat". He was insistent so I told him that, if I made it for him, he HAD to eat it. He did and still maintains that it was nice ... so that's next Saturday's meal sorted Oh that wasn't a nightmare, I quite liked the idea of a circus in the back garden.

Thanks for clarifying that definition for me. I saw the latest "Dr Who" last night and the new doctor ate fish sticks dipped in custard I can't get that image out of my head. I'm only bringing up the custard because I had bought a tin of "Bird's" brand custard powder a few months ago, and it has directions for "on the hob" Thought they just meant the stove in general including the burners Wow, so in your nightmares, your son has joined the circus Intersting

We had porridge for breakfast last week...we usually have it over the weekend because my older son (who is 9) loves to make it...he makes it the old fashioned way on the stove.

We usually have porridge when it's just me and the kids. My husband usually prefers porridge as a 'side' to a regular South Indian breakfast (cooking which is a lot of work!). So, I avoid making porridge when he is home..lol

It has been a few weeks since I had some oats/porridge and sadly they were instant oats and were made in the microwave... I only like the quick oats or the instant..for some reason I can't eat the whole oats.

I will be off to make todays soon. I usually put some dried apricots or something in to sweeten it and add to the taste. I hate that Ready Brek stuff.

I don't remember when but it was within the past two weeks, and it may have been as an evening snack for all I know. What I do know is that it was the instant kind that comes in individual packets to which you just add hot water.

I haven't tried those. I only make it on days that I'm not working as I wouldn't have time to cook it, let it cool a bit and eat it... unless I got up earlier but I think 5.30am is early enough.

In the US, porridge only exists in fairy tales. We call it oatmeal. Been a while since I've had any as I'm not all that fond of it.

Hiya Wizzy, Yes I make Porridge when I can find a decent brand and I make it on the Gas Ring or whatever is going forgot to add that on the end. Porridge is not a big thing here except for me I grew up on that I hate to think where I would be without it. One of the most healthy foods around. I´m not Goldilocks I´m a Brunettelocks hope I spelled that right so maybe the Three Bears would reconsider coming here self invited of course. I used to play this game with the Kids and Itsy Bitsy Spider too (grin). Please send me a spoonful of that Porridge.

Hiya Wizzy, Too right you would be on the scent of their trail with Baked Beans around. Not so much with Pasta though unless you put some spicy stuff in it of course. Baked Beans don´t taste the same to me anymore. Although the Brand I got here could well be an imitation of the same brand as Heinz they were awful too did not enjoy them. A million Housewives every Day pick up a tin of Beans and say Beans mean Heinz. Okay only kidding.

I did reply to your first comment here but it hit me with "page cannot be displayed" I have Asda value at the moment and make it in the microwave. The Branston beans were on 4 for £1 the other week so I stocked up because they worked out cheaper than the supermarket value brands. When I open a tin, I love to get a bit of bread & butter and "dunk" it into the sauce in the tin

Hiya Wizzy, Well I can´t think of what I have put in there that is ahem. Never mind I can´t get any brand of Beans at the moment. It´s like they have come to an agreement everywhere not to sell them at all. If I went to the Coast I can guarantee I would find them all over the place. Certainly not going that far for that they are not considered an everyday food so that is why they are really quite expensive here too like Campbells Soup I love a tin of that every so often and they make a great base for a Stew or Casserole. What I did say was I used to play the Goldilocks game and Itsy Bitsy Spider game with my Kids when they were Babies.

I prefer cereals for breakfast. I just soak them in cold milk. I don't like to use microwave! However if I had to have porridge I would prefer to use a slow cooker.

I am trying to be healthy and have become conscious of the amount of sugar in the most basic cereals. I like Crunchy nut Coenflakes
