I bought a few Avocados and wanted to make a dip with them but they are not ripe yet. Can anyone suggest some easy and quick ways to ripen them sooner?

Hello! Well I've never had to ripen an avocado, I don't think we've ever bought any but I found a link for you that might be helpful. The first suggestion on the site sounds just like what you do for bananas. http://vegetarian.about.com/od/cookingtipstools/qt/ripenavocados.htm I hope this helps! So what kind of dip are you making?

hmm. I've never had an avocado. But if its like a banana or most fruits i've had then you can put it in a sealed paper brown bag. something like it will trap the CO2 and cause the ripening to quicken... something like that.

Awesomeness! so i'm not the only one who does this. Sometimes when i get unripened bananas from the fruit stand i'll put one them a paper bag so i can eat them sooner.

I just made avocado dip myself a few minutes ago. I love avocado. My problem is often the opposite...they ripen too fast and I have to hurry and use them. I have also heard of putting them in a paper bag in a dark warm place.

I use newspaper. It´s the only way I know and have been doing since the beginning of time. I learnt it from my grandma. Don´t use unripe avocados: they don´t taste well at all. It´s better to wait until ripe. Never put them in the fridge.

Yeah. The gas gas released is actually ethylene. You can use a paper or plastic bag, and do not refrigerate. It will still take at least 24 hours though. Maybe more if they're really green. Good luck. You may want to consider running to the store to find some ripe ones.
