On my braces I got these elastics that I ahve to wear all the time except for when I eat or brush my teeth. They are the ones that I put at the back and make a trianle out of (not the ons lcated in the actual bracket that teh dentist puts in). What do they do? What is their purpose in my braces? I find them annoying as I cant open my muth as myuch and I feel weird taking them out before eating at school and such.

Hi. artsfartsgypsy. My elastics was for the purpose of helping my teeth come together more closer. I had an over bite in my mouth before I got braces. I got so tired of wearing them. I had so many of these rubber bands that my dentist gave me. They was on the floor all over the place at home. I did not like taking them out in public. I think I would just go in the bathroom and remove them.

Depending on where the hooks for your elastics are and how you're connecting them, usually it's to fix your bite and not really straighten anything. I think it helps to distribute the forces correctly or something, so you don't have anything pulled out of alignment. Suggestion - if you wear them exactly as you're supposed to and don't skip any time, you'll be able to stop wearing them that much faster lol.
