Yes!
It is 27 critical security holes in the Java platform, and if you are actively doing online banking or actively playing Java games then you really need this update.
And note, the attacks had been and is still successful before the installment of this update.
The update is available for Windows, Solaris and Linux, and it addresses issues that could be remotely exploitable without authentication.
Affected products include:
* Java SE:
+ JDK and JRE 6 Update 18 and earlier for Windows, Solaris, and Linux;
+ JDK 5.0 Update 23 and earlier for Solaris;
+ SDK 1.4.2_25 and earlier for Solaris
* Java for Business:
+ JDK and JRE 6 Update 18 and earlier for Windows, Solaris and Linux,
+ JDK and JRE 5.0 Update 23 and earlier for Windows, Solaris and Linux;
+ SDK and JRE 1.4.2_25 and earlier for Windows, Solaris and Linux
This is also for Apple OS users as well, as these 27 vulnerabilities in Java also affect Apple’s Mac OS X but Apple’s patches are usually delayed for a very long time.

is that true? i was surprised to hear that! you know the internet security has been a great issue these years and software bugs and holes have cost a lot.besides,there are more and more viruses posing threats to pcs. we should be more careful while surfing the internet.

Well, it is true and this is actually coming from Oracle the entity that develops and owns Java.
So, just be careful and download this vital update if your OS is being mentioned here.
