How much time to spend on Seo?

Hello my friends, I wanted to ask you how much time did you need to familirise yourself with Seo? I know what its standing for, and there is so much information around... if I would start to learn everything from a to z I probably would need a few years.
So I wanted to know how much time did you spend on Seo to have a fair idea about it and to be able to apply it?

You should be able to apply the basic principles the very first day. It really depends on how far you wish to take it. I read everything that I find on the subject. It is also important to keep up on what the search engines are paying attention to...as this can change to some degree. The more you know...the better job you can do...the higher your site will show in the search engines

I don't pay.
But, yes you can pay a lot to have this done...depending on the size of your site...how many pages etc. There are companies that will "guarantee" you first page placement. I don't believe them.....for the simple reason EVERYONE cant be on the first page....unless of course if you are using a very unique key phrase...but that alone is tough also.

Hi Asja, hi workingmom - yes you can pay for SEO, but to do so, first you must learn about it, so after the ones you have employed for the job has finished it, to check a bit of their work - because it's easy to pay and been scammed if you can't control(at least a bit of it) the work you pay for. I also, don't pay for SEO and I don't know too much about it, but I prefer doing it myself, because, this way I learn a lot about it and I'm also improving my skills. It's the best way to gain traffic for free, but also it's the hardest way - the advantage of doing it and profiting from it, is that once you are able to do it and do it regularly, your site will begin to practically promote itself, because most of the traffic will come from the search engines(the people will come to your site from their searches and not from any kind of paid traffic or traffic exchanges or link exchanges or anything like that).

as long as you understand the concept of SEO,
It easy like ABC...
Time?
I dont thing you need few years to familiar with it...
Just keep learn because there's a lot more trick to attract traffic to your site..
:P
