I got an Acer Aspire Laptop 5920 2 years back. From past 2 years I did not face any problem with this laptop. I do not know the reason for this power failure may be power fluctuations in my house but suddenly my laptop got shutdown and when I try to start, there was no response from the power button. Later I checked with my power adapter, it does not respond if I connect my laptop (It starts blinking). If I disconnect from laptop, the light in the power adapter is not blinking. So I guessed it can be the problem with some ports inside my laptop related to power adapter. I verified with my friends and some of the blogs in the internet and later decided to give it to some private laptop repairer (Rajendra +91 9620201475). Now he told me today that my power ports has gone and I need to insert a new one and also display chip. So he was asking me to pay around 4,000 INR including service charges and taxes. Later I verified with some of my friends and with him again to bargain as I felt paying that much amount would be too much. But he did not agree to come down in the praise and he told if I go to any acer service center, those people will charge me around 6,000 INR. and thats how acer people are making money. I need to know if this is true? Later I decided to go with him. I thought if I go with someone else and if they say the same thing, they may charge me more... so better not to take the risk, I decided to give 4k. He told me to give me my laptop by tomorrow evening. Lets see if he still maintain his promise I will get my laptop safely. I will post you updated. Did you guys faced any such problems? If so share it with me and let me know if I am in trouble with this guy. Thanks for reading my discussion. Triguna

i think you must go to acer first. the reason is simple that may be the person is trying to ditch you. acer could charge a nominal fee if you dont take the service from them. other thing there could be any other problem also and you must also consider and the company could test in standard way. may be the price is less for that reason. and the last thing. when you have to pay even 6k instead of 4k they will provide you some warranty of alteast a month of the service so you should prefer. i have faced some type of problem with my monitor and the repair worker asked me for 2k nearly and i went to service center and including taxes i had to pay 450INR. that was an example for you.

I wish I would have posted this two days early. :( hmmm... Next time onwards I will try service center option. Service center works for my vehicle but hardware is different I thought.

Problem is not yet resolved. :( He took 4,500 from me and fixed the IC chips and now laptop is getting on when the power adapter is connected. But as soon as the power adapter is off, laptop is getting shutdown. I told the same guy to check again and he checked something and gave me the laptop telling me that everything is fine. But now the problem did not go. I am giving the laptop to him again... This has become a daily routine for me. I hate to do it as it was his responsibility to give me the laptop in proper condition but he corrupted it. :(

the worst could be the mother board failure. Try fixya.com and trouble shoot from there. Also test the power outlet and try it on a different one, or try at a friends house. It could be a faulty power adapter or the connectors inside the laptop. another problem can be built up dust inside the laptop. Open it up and clean it. Check out the site fixya you will most likely find the cause there. Good luck!

thanks for your suggestions. Just yesterday few other problems started in my laptop. Now power adapter is not picking up the power. I gave power adapter too along with my laptop to the guy and I guess he did something so that he can earn more money. I asked him to repair that and he told me to bring that tomorrow. hmmm... I do not know whom to believe and whom not to. :(
