Yeah in order to make money from your blog you need people going to it and visiting it. There is some work involved like for example SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of your blog is important. Also you should post in your blog as often as you can so that your blogs content has a higher chance of being picked up by some search engine and a person. Blogs have to be ever changing so that they remain interesting to the audience that they are trying to attract.

I am trying right now to make money off my blog it is at jeffgeigersblog.blogspot.com it cover many different topics. I am breaking a "Blogging rule" by not having my blog focus on any given topic I think it will make it more interesting to the people viewing/reading it if they can find a sort of one place to have a mix of topics on one blog. I am trying more than one way to make money off my blog. I have a cafepress account and also am developing software to launch on my blog so that people can download the software for free. I am developing multiple income streams for my blog as I feel this is the best way to make money online.
