for most of us black might mean bad luck or evil. do you think it is really inappropriate to wear black or something with the touch of black on occasions like wedding or birthday?

I don't see why people shouldn't wear black if they choose to. in fact, I've seen some beautiful black wedding dresses, and the result can be really stylish. there is no evil in a colour.

I personally find nothing wrong with black at any event. A lot of things have been twisted and warped over time as people changed things due to fear or something being unknown. At my father's wedding to my second stepmother I wore a black dress as her bridesmaid and everything went off fine. Those who believe it is bad luck are set in a close-minded cycle and refuse to see it as only a color. Anything and everything can be linked to demons and ghouls, so its quite silly to fret over the color of something. In the end its up to you if you decide to wear black to an event like that, so why let others opinions influence something if its something you wish to do?

I think the trend now a days are different. I know some celebrities had their wedding motif as black and red and it look cute. . So for weddings you usually go for the theme or motif of the wedding same as for the debut. You do not want to stand out too much to outshine the bride or the debutant right. I think wearing black on parties such as birthdays held in a hotel for example where a formal attire is required and the event is in the evening, then it is okay to wear a black dress and a black suit for men (unless indicated of course).

I have attended weddings and birthday parties that require formal or evening dress. Normally, wearing black on formal occasions is acceptable unless the party host specified in the invite that wearing black is prohibited.

I might say that black dress is a no no for brides but as for guest I might say, either wedding or birthday, black dress would be definitely a good outfit if th theme is formal.

its just a tradition. and old belief. i dont think that its inappropriate. demons disguises as angels to deceive good people.so its not on the outside appearance thats important, but whats inside. but to be safe, try not to dress black during those occassions. =p
