WHta's the difference between a suit and a tux?

I just dont understand the difference. Cana nyone explain it to me?

a tux is more formal. i watch what not to wear and i guess suits are more versitle. you can wear the suit jacket with jeans or other pants besides what was in the set when you bought it. and you can wear the bottoms with different tops.

I could be wrong here but I thought it was almost like the difference between tables & desks. You don't hear, "set the dinner desk". I believe tux is more of formal wear that is related to specific occassions. Suit is something you wear in any formal business related occassions. It's like a groom don't wear suit to his own wedding just as you wouldn't wear tux to business dinner or meetings. May be they do. It might be that tux implies little bit of both, like business party. Times when you wanna keep it formal with bit of casual sense.
