Election Fever -- Who's Going to get your Vote?

Philippines
April 11, 2010 12:57am CST
With the upcoming election just about a month to go a lot of question still lingers me and I'm afraid it won't be answered even in the near future. On Aquino He has the bloodline, he has the pedigree and he has the "cory magic" in his being. Still, a question remains unanswered: Who is he apart from being the son of Patriot Ninoy and president Cory, the brother of popular TV actress Kris and the brother-in-law of basketball superstar James Yap? Who is he? What has he done to get my nod? On Villar He's successful, he's a self-made billionaire. His rags-to-riches story is as magical as those of the Cinderellas and the Snow Whites. However, will he turn the presidency into his next multi-million peso estate? will he go for personal profit rather than GNP? On Estrada The self-proclaimed champion of the poor. A noble title indeed but did it ever occurred to anyone of us that a president should be president of the people not just president of the poor. A president should be president of the people irrespective of social class. Once elected you are not president of a certain marginalized sector nor president of the ruling majority. Where's the doctrine of equal protection of law? As president you should take care of the welfare of all your constituents whether rich or poor. Mr. former president, I may ask... what about the rich? who's their protector? On Teodoro Without question, the smartest and wittiest of all presidential aspirants, he has solid platforms and solutions. He has form as well as substance on the other hand intelligence alone does not make a good leader. He may have the tools but does he have an experience handling a whole nation? I admire him, he has the potentials bet he is raw and there's no OJT when it comes to the presidency. Moreover, he's witty, how can we be sure that he isn't outwitting us all this time? On Gordon He transformed Subic but Subic isn't the Philippines. It's just a small part of the country. He offers tried-and-tested solutions but could it be that his "old and traditional" way incompatible to then "new and ever-changing" world of today? Subic's transformation is fueled by the changes which were embraced by the people plus the brilliant ideas of Gordon. But an issue still bugs me, the Philippines isn't Subic. Does his system suits a whole nation? On Villanueva A religious icon, an apostolic mission. He is at the bottom of every survey but he remains optimistic. Are we chaotic enough that we are due for a miracle? However, our constitution speaks for the separation of the church and the government due to our harsh experience during the Spanish regime. So, my question is: Would he favor his church and in the process we'll basically go back to the "friar's way of things"? On Madrigal, Perlas, Acosta, Delos Reyes With all due respect, I choose not to say anything for or against them.

I go for Gordon even though he's not a winnable candidate. His portfolio is remarkable and his work ethics is at par with Gibo. He doesnt use dirty tactics nor smear his opponents' image. He just plays fair, a quality only exhibited by a true leader.

Gibo is a gentleman but i don't believe in his platforms or answer to issues. i watch timbangan show with TV5 hosted by Winnie Monsod, and gibo's education plan flunk and wasn't approve by educational experts or teachers, but as for gordons he got a perfect rating.

Gordon and Gibo arguably lead the race when it comes to solid programs, specific plans and innovative platform of governance. Yes, I admire Gordon for not engaging himself in the dirty game of throw and throw back.

I'll still go for Gordon. Yeah it's true that Subic isn't the Philippines but it is part of the Philippines in whatever ways you look. One achievement could lead to another. As the commercial MILO's slogan says, "Great things start from small beginnings". XD

I love your analogy, great things start from humble beginnings indeed. In choosing for a leader I ask myself: What is his/her edge? and what is his/her rivals edge? So I guess, it's not just how good you are in a certain area.

Very nice analysis of you in here. I am impress by your good observations in them. I also am looking for an answer to you question too. I guess many supporters from in here would try to answer the best they can. I just find it funny that you were not able to make any comment on the last four candidates. I prefer to keep my choice a secret as it is my right not to divulge them. I hope by May you will have a name to come up with by then.

I also hope that it will turn out to be generally peaceful. I'm guessing... your choice isn't among my "big three list" right?

Haha.. with all due respect, I think the last four candidates isn't on the "big picture" As for me, there's a battle inside my mind perhaps due to my admiration of self-made success, tried and tested formulas that work in bar-filled municipality and strategic planning done by a lawyer/pilot. I've already dropped a hint!!

Hi louie, one thing I observed is that this is actually a great fight this time around. The pool of candidates are actually hard to choose from. I am for Gordon actually. He did transform Subic, and Subic is not Philippines, but first, you should know that transforming Subic is not the only accomplishment he had done. There are so many others.

Speaking of the fight, the debacle between Aquino and Villar seems to remind me of Mayweather-Pacquiao blood testing bruhaha. Villar to Aquino -- to test or not to test? (psychological test)

I am glad that you are studying your options. The Filipino had truly emerged as far as voting is concerned. I had been to a number of national elections and guess what, not any of those I voted ever became president. But the transforming of the Filipino from the grim tales of Martial Law shows that we are on the right track. Had serious bumps along the way and had scars to show our mistakes but we are getting there. Vote for the lesser of all evils, so they say. Weigh the good points and the bad. Whoever wins, we are still a people. Keep that in mind.

Yup, that's the greatest yet the hardest thing a person could do, accept defeat. Once the jitters of this election fades out, we should support whoever wins. Unity is the key to nation building and I hope candidates will realize that.

Ha!ha!ha! you made me laugh when my reading went down to Madrigal. Why o why did you not even mention anything. Well anyway...I think you believe it would be of no gain for anyway she does not seem to be getting any support from the voting public anyway. Well to tell you the truth, of all the leading candidates, Villanueva and Madrigal not included for they will not make it anyway, only two candidates should not be voted as far as I am concerned. Villar and Erap should be scratched out. Why? They are using the poor too much. Villar have big promise of ending the povery. Well that is for the poor. Too good to be true promises which is too impossible to achieve by a politician who has long been in the political scene but has not really done anything remarkable for the poor. His own place, Las Pinas he did not even achieve any greatness during his term. Suddenly, he would talk about ending poverty. Funny! Well Erap was able to be the President although he was taken out of the office by people power...but come to think of it, he was unable to alleviate poverty during his term and my goodness....he is brainless! He speaks without sense. How could he ever make sense? So NO TO VILLAR AND ERAP. GO FOR EITHER GIBO, GORDON, OR NOYNOY.

As a registered voter, I am still undecided whom I should vote as the president of our country. But for now I am thinking of voting either Richard Gordon or Noynoy Aquino.

The clock is ticking... Anyway at least you've managed to cut your list to two choices unlike me who still has a "Big Three" to configure.
