So today I was just remembering what one of my girl friends said when I asked her if she wanted to go the beach or not. When I asked her she said no because she didnt have a tan. I have heard this multiple times from people and I always think one that kind of defeats the purpose of the beach because you go there to get tan and two how else do you get a tan when you live next to the beach???? Can anyone tell me the logic in this excuse to not go to the beach?

well not everyone actually wants a tan. I don't. sun damage isn't pretty.

Apparently some people go to the beach to be part of the scenery! Have to agree, I'd rather skip the whole cancer/perma-wrinkle thing.

I know exactly what you are talking about! I am in Italy and I hear that over and over again. Many people, as soon as the spring sun starts shining, book appointments at the beauty salons to go and get their tan on the sun beds so that they can then go to the beach already tanned The suns rays are harmful but they are just as harmful whether you go already tanned or not. You still have to use barrier creams even if you already have an artificial tan. I guess that some just can't bear going and showing off their real, natural, pale colours - but I can understand your bewilderment!

yea but i think going to the beach with a tan actually has an advantage. maybe you feel less heat?
