Which Mac to choose?

I am about to buy a Mac, but I got just so jealous about my friend's new laptop which is called to be a desktop computer killer, because it is more effective than most desktop PCs. It's screen is big, and it has good graphics. The design is quite good too. Now I am not so confident about Macs, but am still going to buy one.
The question is: Which Mac computer is the best for me/you? You could make me discussions, or tell which Mac you would want to get personally?
If you need information about what needs it will have then: I would mainly use it for gaming and surfing. I want it to have an enough big screen so that I can see what's happening inside the game. It can be desktop or laptop, but I want it to be quite effective, and also to have good specs because I might play some "hard core" games.
What would you suggest for me?
