This week I am learning about Journal keeping in school and I was wondering do people actually keep journals and if so why do you keep one. I also wanted to know if men keep journals as much as women do?

I do keep a Journal (or Diary as it is known over here) since I was 11 years old. I am now 44! I started off with a 5 year Diary as a present, then I bought page a day versions and that is the format I stick with to this day (although some earlier ones were a week to view) and I am also blogging my "old" diaries which can be fun at times. Why do I keep one? Habit I suppose! Although they are a great tool for remembering appointments and the like. As soon as I know about a job interview or a doctor's appointment..into the diary it goes! I would recommend everyone to keep a diary. My husband does not have one but he should as; rather than write down when a bill is due he would much rather keep the bill itself in its envelope, cluttering up the place! My two most treasured diaries are a Russell Grant Astrology Diary from 1986 and a Nostradamus Diary from (I think) 1990. I can't wait to blog them!

About three months ago I started keeping a gratitude journal. I took the suggestion from a guy on Gather, you may have run into him too. He had talked about how he did it himself, and one day I thought I ought to start too. It really has helped me. I right down every little thing that I can be grateful for. Like getting into seen the doctor five minutes before my appointment...Nothing is too small to be written down. When I was a teenager I kept a journal. I went through several journals. But I haven't done that in years.

I used to keep a journal of my daily activities at school. It helps me to analyse my teaching performance and fix things which I can do better. It also helps me to track work that I have assigned to my students.

I've kept a journal since middle school. I like writing down my thoughts and what's happened to me at the end of the day. I rarely miss a day, though sometimes I write really short entries. There are lots of experiences and feelings that I just don't want to forget, and I know if I don't write them down I probably would. I also like reading back over my journals and seeing how far I've come.
