Enough of the stupid ring tone!

I have this co-worker, who I think just discovered cellphones and ring tones. I think he just bought a new one over the weekend and somehow discovered that he could choose any song he wants as a ring tone. And I think he likes Lady Gaga so much that he decided that he would let everybody hear Bad Romance over and over again. Every time he gets a call, we get to hear the song over and over again. Ugh! It was OK hearing it the first few times, but I’m already getting sick of it. And it’s just the second day!
So, are you this type of annoying co-worker? Or do you know of one where you’re at? Do you like Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance? What’s your ringtone? Have you discovered the vibrate mode already?

I actually dislike Lady Gaga (bring it on now, people lol) and I don't really need to hear that song again if possible. My take at work? If I'm in an office, vibrate. I don't need people knowing about my phone calls any more than people necessarily need to know I'm talking to them at work. Now if I work on the road and am by myself most of the time, or in public places as opposed to a workplace, then it wouldn't matter and I'd just have ringers going off.
I have multiple ringtones assigned to specific people, and I make them myself. I also make my own alerts for text and pictures, set one for yahoo and email, etc.
I kind of walk a fine line between not necessarily wanting to ANNOY other people with the fact that people CHOOSE to be annoyed. I hear cell phones going off all day long. I might not like HALF of the stuff I hear but most people answer quickly enough that you don't hear 40 seconds of a song, so it's not that serious. Besides, I can usually walk away if I don't like the ringtone lol.

Lady Gaga is somewhat disturbing for me. I saw her perform in one of those award shows where she was wearing white, and had some blood spewing from her. Uggh! Even if her songs are a bit catchy, ugh!
That's what would I do, assign specific ringtones for people in my address book if my phone is capable. But I guess this guy has a new toy in that celphone, and everybody has just got to hear it. Good thing he has been told already.

Hi, bounnce58. That is very rude! I am surprised that they don't have a sign of no cell phone usage in the work force facility.
I have the ring tone of a beach. It sounds like soft bells and relaxing chimes. I love it, it is very soothing. On my other cell phone, it is automatically set to the normal ring tone that came with the phone. I want to change it, but it is like this is the only ring tone that I can have. I think that I would have to pay for any additional ring tones if I want it. He should keep his phone turn off. And some people like having their phone ring just so that they can show off with their song that they have set on their cell phone too.

Mine is some stupid thing that came with the phone. I suppose I should stop being so cheap and just download something I like.
My neighbor at work has the theme from the old TV show "Lassie". And my friend who's staying with me has bird noises. Of the two, I think the bird noises are more annoying...

Hey bounce! It's a good thing he isn't my co-worker or he would
have had his cellphone thrown against some wall by now! I happen
to HATE Lady Gaga and every song she sings, especially "Poker
Face"! If it was that one I would "poker him in the face"! I hate
all those annoying ring tones! I have a phone with not that many
choices for fancy ring tones so I don't have that many choices!
I get my phone from the State of NY since I am Disabled! So,
the choices I have are very minimal! I chose one that is not
annoying, Fur Elise, Beethovan! It was a song that was in my
Grandmother's music box that I loved so I picked that one!
Needless to say it is very short and sweet and definitely not
annoying! Now don't get me wrong, my taste in music is anything
but Classic! I am the oldest "Hip Hop Queen" you would ever meet!
But, I just hate Gaga, that's all! Now give me something by 50 Cent,
Black Eyed Peas, Jaime Foxx, R Kelly, TI, JayZ..... and I'll put
any of them on as my ringtone! Watch me.......

OK, OK,
as long as you don't have the same ring tone over and over again, and going off at its loudest to tell everybody you have a new phone. hehe
I used to hav Fur Elise as a ring tone, a long time ago. That was when the choices were just whatever the phone came with. Of course nowadays you can have whatever ringtone you want. I wouldn't mind a little rap. We can even assign it to a particular caller so we don't have to hear the same tone over and over again.
Thanks Opal!

I'm surprised that they allow you to use cellphones during office hours. For most companies, this is not allowed but since your workplace permits this, why not call the attention of your officemate? Just ask him nicely to keep the tone down because it disrupts the rest of the group. Try not to ask him alone for he might think that you are simply taking this personally. If this won't work, elevate this to your supervisor. Whether cellphones are permitted or not, there shouldn't be anything that could disturb anybody's work that can affect company's goals. Good luck to you on this.

Hello bounce good day!!! I would feel the same thing, I would get annoyed if I keep on hearing that songs every now and then. Before we have a tenant his cellphone is too loud that everyone in the compound would heard it. So what I did, I keep on singing the song even if I am out of tune. Then I immediately told him, that I already memorized the lyrics and I no longer like singing it. Good thing he catch what I am trying to point it out.
In our office we dont have that sign about turn off the phone or keep the phone on silence mode. But since we are all professional and we dont want to disturb our co workers. We have an initiative to put it in silence mode and some would lower the volume. In my case I always put it on silent mode if possible. But most of the time I dont bring my phone with me in the office. So no harm done with others.

Hello ada8may21. Great strategy!
Unfortunately, our office is one where cellphones are quite necessary. Aside from my own personal phone, I also carry with me a company phone. But I keep both on vibrate mode so as not to disturb anybody.
Thanks for the response.

I just hope he is just as professional as you. Because if the ring tone is too loud there is a great possibility that we could disturb people around us.
And I dont like disturbing someone just like you. Enjoy..

i will be really annoyed as well if i am in your position... i will kindly tell him to put his mobile phone on silent and vibrate mode as it is disturbing the other people at work... i might go as far as to complain to the manager if he ignored me... it is just not acceptable to disturb other people like that with his annoying mobile ring tone while people are trying to concentrate on their work... take care and have a nice day...

Worst than a co worker, my brother, whom I live with. He is a bit younger than me and is really into this corny candy cane rap music all the kids are into nowadays. Then he knows how much I don't like it and puts like some of the WORST music on his phone as a ring tone and has the ring volume so high, we all all forced to listen to this stupid song every single day!!! OMG!!!
If I have to hear "Lemonade" by Gucci Mane anymore than it already comes on the radio or video shows, I am seriously going to break his phone and not feel bad about it. I know exactly how you feel!! Plus the fact the music now is just so dumbed down I cannot understand why anyone likes it, and I seriously think it shows how much our average intelligence level has fallen as a nation. I try to think higher of my lil bro, but it would seem he falls into the same category...

hi bounce I used to work in our local library and the one thing that would really irritate me is people not paying attention to the sign
on the front door, do not use cellphone while in library.shut it
off.and yes we had one person who had one of those wild loud lady gaga ringtones on her cell phone, so when it rang everyone in the library heard it, students doing homework, people doing their taxes and others on the net working diligently. all were scowling and some came to the front desk to complain about being disturbed by that cellphone. so I was the one designated to go tell her to put the kibash on her blasted cellphone.0f course she complained but I told her please just shut your cellphone off. some people only think of their own needs and not of anyone else.

Hello Hatley.
Of all the places, you would think that people would know not to make cellphones ring inside the library. Even if the ringtone is one of the latest craze. I feel bad for you to have that responsibility to tell people (off!). I bet that's the part of your library job that you don't miss.
Thanks.

Luckily I do not know anyone like this anymore. I had a friend who's phone would not only play some nasty rap song when she was receiving calls AND when you were calling her. I think they call those "caller tunes" but I could be wrong. It was so annoying. I avoided calling her just because I got sooo sick of the song I had to listen to while I waited for her to pick up. Occasionally ill have a song as my ring tone, but usually its just that t mobile jingle. The whole ring tone thing is a little juvenile, but just down right disrespectful when you're spending time around other people. Especially in a professional atmosphere like at work. Just inconsiderate! I mean how hard is it to put your phone on silent or vibrate? Haha I can understand where you're coming from on this.

Haha! I could just imagine myself in the boardroom of our company in a meeting with all the stuck up bosses, and then my cellphone would start to ring. And the ringtone is a nasty rap! Ha! I would quickly feel the hot water around me for sure.
Thank goodness I'm true with the ring tone phase.

Hi there. This is a funny discussion. Actually, the ring tone of my cellphone is Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi." :-p Luckily, my officemates did not have the privilege of hearing my ringtone because our office is strict when it comes to cellphones. It's either silent mode or off your phone. But I agree, Bad Romance is really irritating. :-)
