I you mean by version it may be visual studio vb or c#. and which is the hardest of them all i think the first language you learn whatever it may be because we are new we find our first language to be the hard like if you start with c you will find it hard then you start learning c++ you would grasp more fast than before

There is a field of many languages out there but most of these languages have specific purposes. If you know a language, why not find one similar to that you already know. Some examples are: Ruby, Python, PHP, Perl, C++, C#, Java but there is a whole heap of 'em!!

I am a java/j2ee developer for almost 7 years. Every language has its own strength and shortcoming. Why bother to distinguish which is better one? The key element is not on programming language you are using, but the methodology or pattern you apply to.

There will always be a flavor of the day, but C goes on forever. Most new languages just don't take off. Even Java, which should in theory have many advantages, fails because it isn't as universal and "cross platform" as people expected. C and C++ are definitely not cross platform yet remain the base of nearly all programming. Microsoft has its own peculiar versions, as non standard as is usual for Microsoft. GNU compilers are more standardized but still have their quirks. What is hard? Getting the idea for a new application!

C++ is a very tricky language at first. However, it is my favorite programming language. Using this language is a hobby of mine, but I am going to college for becoming a programming language.
