Does your stomach tell time?

Psychologically your stomach telling you your hung - Eating at particular times of the day

The problem with working in a regular job with regular hours for breaks and lunch times, is that you yourself will get well in-tuned with the hours at work. So no matter what time I come in, or if I had breakfast or not, I would usually get hungry at 11:30. A colleague of mine, is also regularly going looking for coffee at at 9:15 and at 1:45, which coincides with the coffee breaks of the production floor. So, do you get particularly hungry at a certain time of the day? Is this one of the reasons why a lot of us are getting bigger? Because psychologically we’re trained to look for food at these times even if we’re not really hungry? What do you think?

It is but usual that our digestive system is tuned to react to its need, namely hunger, as when it is needed.

Yes, I think that the stomach is a very good time keeper! I know that it always lets me know when it is time to eat have settle down for the evening! I think that regular eating at specific times can definitely become a habit and can also become detrimental to the health. I'm trying to adopt a healthy eating style but it's not easy at times. I tend to have my meals at a specific time during the day and I'm so used to this regular routine now and yes, I'm trying to lose some weight in the process as well! Andrew

I guess it is so , I also feel hungry at this time. If what is the usual time you eat in a meal then that's the atime also that I seem to eat . You know our stomach will let us feel this way for it has nothing to digest and circulates so we felt hungry and try to accomodate this need. I think I believed it as a psychological because we are used to it then it will remember day by the day what it used to do.

You are right when you say it is psychological. But I think it's our stomach trying to trick our mind. So that sometimes even if we are really not hungry, it feel as if it does because it is already time. Thanks.

Yeah, as far as I am concerned, I think my stomach will always tell me the time it is. When my stomach is going to tell me the time, then my stomach will just speak out , " my master .I am so hungry now. I need to have some food to eat. Then it is at noon.

Hello monkeylong. If your stomach did really start talking, then you should see a professional! A doctor to see if you swallowed something, or a psychiatrist to check if you're just hearing voices. Haha Thanks for the response.

Yes and no. On work days I eat After work so by the time I get home on my late days I am hungry. But on my days off, I tend to eat Whenever I get hungry. It All depends on what time I got up and what I am doing.

I think you're an exception to the rule Sarah. As I think you don't keep regular hours for work days. So I guess, your hungry time would vary from day to day. And would depend if you have work or not. Thanks!

Sounds like you got a well in-tuned stomach there cher913. That's good. You'd always know when to take a break, even if you're enjoying what you're doing too much. Thanks!

yes I get hungry about 7 when I go down to breakfast as it is sort of a pattern, then at eleven I am again hungry. It could be causing our obesity rate if we stuff on heavy calorific foods but if we eat more veggies and fresh fruit for snacks we will be slimmer and healthier also and t hat is always good.

That's what I wanted to say! We get stuck in a pattern that our bodies get so used to eating at certain times. I guess there are advantages, and disadvantages with sticking to a pattern, and this may just be a disadvantage. Thanks Hatley.

I know what you mean, regardless of whether we ate earlier or not, we want to look for food as per the schedule we're used to. Sometimes I know I've even gotten a little hungry and probably ate too much then I really should have because of it. Now that I don't have a job I find I eat at really odd hours, usually dependant on my husband's schedule.

Yeah! It's like your stomach telling your mind that it's time to eat. Or is it the other way around? Your mind telling your stomach. It's the schedule that we impose on ourselves. Well in your case, your husbands schedule. Thanks!

Hi, bounce58. I think that this is somewhat true. I get hungry around the same time sometimes in a day. But, I am not fat because of it. It is like this when I am at home. And, it is like my body is responding to a clock.

I don't really mean that it'll make us fat, it is just very interesting that our minds can get our stomach thinking that it's hungry because of a daily pattern, at home or at work. Maybe if we can harness this inner knowledge, we wouldn't have any use for clocks anymore. Thanks for the response.

Yes it seems that my stomach is an alarm clock that remind me every 12:30 pm that it is about time to eat. I usually get hungry when 12:30 pm strikes whether I have breakfast or not. Maybe sometimes, it is just a psychological effects of the mind so you think that you are hungry.

Hello junmae. I also think it is psychological. And if your daily routine is to eat at 12:30, then it adds to the concept of being hungry at that time. Thanks for the response.

Hello, Bounce. That's definitely true. We have developed into a fixed mode to look for food at certain times even if we are not hungry. Maybe we can called this “obsessive-compulsive disorder”which is most common and susceptible to get this bad habit in the group of the nine-to-five office workers. We eat for no decent reason but under the fixed habit psychologically. It is not easy to change this developed habit. Happy mylotting!

I guess you're right Candymin! Except for a couple of months when I worked graveyard, I've always been a 7:30-4:00 employee. And my coffee and lunch breaks are always at the same time. That's why I think my stomach always knows when it's time to eat. Thanks for responding.

Definitely my stomach would tell time. It tells me because at a particular time of the day I would get hungry. Sounds (bowel sounds) would be heard at approximately 8am, 11:30am and 7:30 pm. Thats how I would know the time. I guess our stomachs our programmed to digest something especially when you are used to eat during those times.

Hello renzoray! Your stomach is even more evolved than mine. Aside from telling time, yours have a particular alarm that could be heard! Bowel sounds! Haha! I do get those sounds, specially if I'm really hungry. Thanks.
