Allergies hereditary?

Do allergies get passed down through the genes like hair or eye color? I have a mastocytoma which makes me allergic to many kinds of medications is this an abnormal growth in me or does this mean that someone else in my family could be the same?

I inherited my mothers allergy to bellpepper. It sucks because there are so many foods with it in them. Sometimes just for color or decoration. Even a tiny bit makes me ill.

Yup, likely. I got my allergies from my mom but sister doesn't have any. My kid got his allergic rhinitis from me, which was also passed by my mom to me, so there's a pattern here. My sister's lucky enough not to inherit allergic rhinitis from anyone. I hope it ends there. But I don't think it will.
