It seems that one of the largest medical insurers in the country has found a loop hole to deny a mother a bone marrow transplant.

It seems that there are people in the medicare program that are looking for ways to save money and deny claims. Is this what it will be like under Obama Care? IF we disagree with the diagnosis we have to appeal to the media and hope they pick up the story and that congress will take action favorable to us? This is how the Governmnet is running things now why will it change?

This does not surprise me. Medicare is not a bottomless pit of money. No program is. We are in a recession. We have massive debt. Fewer tax dollars coming in. So government programs are having to cut back....that is a bad thing if you are dependent on the government for your healthcare...or anything else. Another reason why we should have a smaller federal government and fewer social programs. We can't afford them and people won't be taken care of properly.

It's not Medicare, it's Medicaid. This case really has nothing to do with any program being a bottomless pit of money, it has to do with a loophole they found after the woman's income increased due to her son receiving Social Security Disability. Whatever the reason, I'm glad Congress is stepping in to help this poor young mother no matter how much it costs.

anniepa...
It doesn't matter if it is medicare or medicaid... it is still the government and it still amounts to the same thing. They are both broke.
Why is Congress stepping in?
Will they do that for everyone who is denied medical care under the new commiecare?
Somehow I don't think so.

sorry i mess up what program it was. But they are still acting like major insurance companies looking for a way not to pay or cover something and it is because they have a botton line to watch. They don't have to worry about profits like insurance companies...but they do only have so much money and when it gets low they look for loop holes.
your right Destiny- congress won't be stepping in to help everyone. You know if they did it her they will and have done it to others. Congress can't step in everytime.

This is what it's been like for YEARS. This is nothing new at all. I can't even count the number of times I've been in a store and seen a little box on the counter to collect money for some very sick soul whose medical coverage doesn't include treatment for a serious disease. there is local media coverage of events to raise money for these folks on a daily basis and has been for many years. Where have you been? There has been managed (and mismanaged) healthcare in this country for years and years and years. If anything, things stand to get better under healthcare reform. At least we won't be seeing any more little boxes for people who were turned down due to pre-existing conditions.
