A Lefty In the Making?

Is 5 months to early to tell if a child will be left or right handed? I ask because my 5 month old son seems to use his left hand more than his right when he's reaching for things or when he is playing. I wonder if that is a sign that he is going to be left handed, or if it may change as he gets older.

It could be that your son is a left-handed person in the making, but honestly it is still far too early to really be able to tell. My son is left-handed (I believe), but I didn't start to think that he would be left-handed until he was about two-and-a-half years old (he is three-and-a-half now and still uses his left hand). The way that I was able to determine that he will most likely be left-handed is because when he started using crayons and pencils, I could tell that he had far more small muscle control in his left hand than in his right side.

I wasn't sure if it was too early to tell. He is still using his left hand more than his right. I guess I'll have to wait until he starts writing. thanks for taking time to answer my post!
