When a Third Umpire goes wrong!

Have you seen the decision given by Third Umpire Shavir Keki Tarapore when he was consulted for stumped chance against Uthappa in RR Vs RCB match?
I am sure anyone who saw the reply could easily notice that it was 'not out'.
But third umpire even after checking ultra motion declared Robin Uthappa OUT!
Even commentators on Cricinfo and Cricbuzz and elsewhere were puzzled by it and commented humorously!
Though it didn't affect much, other than slowing run rate for RCB, still, such decisions are really bad and can make a team lose the match if it is in a tight position.

actually i saw that match and the decision and for once i was very happy.
it may have looked not out to many, but even the commentator were not sure and they assumed that some part of the leg might be behind the line.
i for one, thought that there is a 60 % chance that it may be not out but considering how cricket is turning out to be more friendly, the umpire might rule it in favor of the batsmen and give him not out and was pleasantly surprised when he gave it out.
there have been instances where the third umpire gave wrong decisions but i believe this is not one of them.happy lotting

believe me.when you make the game even a lil bowler fiendly, you might hear the cry that cricket is losing its charm, that cricket is all about big hits and not accumulating runs,we should prepare flat tracks and not like ones in kotla.
since its not gonna happen in the near future, people like me might find these weird instances satisfying.

You are right. So much cry about Kotla pitch because batsmen cannot hit bowlers at their will!
It is really sad and flat pitches are going to kill the art of bowling one day as no bowler will be keen to be just a best bowler and they will try to be 'Average bowler who can hit some big shots'
Happy Mylotting!

Usually when this is the case, the benefit of doubt goes to batsman. So that is why the decision would have been not out. Cannot be given out as it was not clear that the batsman was out of the crease.
No doubt, it shouldn't be batsman oriented but there are other ways to make the game even for both batsman and bowler rather than giving out in this fashion.

when the final authority also goes wrong then there is nothing that can be done. Just carry on with the game accepting the fact that errors are part of life, let alone a game. if we grumble for even trivial things then there is no way that the game can move forward

I don't agree with you. If he gives similar decisions then he will soon be out of Umpiring panel for sure!
If you think it is okay to give out a NOT OUT when it is quite obvious to everyone then there must be something wrong.
This is not a trivial thing as you say. If it is the field umpire who has given out then that is a different case.
And no one is grumbling here! Everyone commented humorously on that decision!

Yes you are absolutely right there. It was a very unfortunate thing to happen. But then life is such. One has to pay for someone else fault. In our day to day life such things happen all the time and so rightly we say it is our fate.

Well even me and my dad were shocked about the decision. I never know when a common people like us know the decisions, but pathetic for an umpire to give a wrong way!
