I looked out my window the other day and there was this half wild cat that sort of is a neighbor's cat and a group of quail, maybe six, in sight. It looked like something may have happened but I couldn't tell, it may have only been that the cat and the quail were in proximity to each other. Anyway the quail weren't running away they were just giving the a cat a path to head "home." I moved to another window and watched the cat crossing the street to the house that is it's pseudo-home and two of the quail were out in the street following the cat at about eight feet behind it. They continued to follow it until it went through a gate by the house's garage and the quail were at the edge of the short driveway, then they turned back. It looked very much like the quail had been herding the cat home and away from where the quail were feeding. It was an amusing thing to watch.

Sometimes when I see people walking their dogs I'd like to think that it is their dogs walking them. So your post made me think how dogs in a way also "herd" their masters around. I can almost hear my dog barking - "Get off your lazy bum and get some exercise". Hehehe.
