I am so upset about this

There's this guy taking kids from the little league where i live. He came into the store where I work, and they called the cops on him. Well, the police come, and let him go! Can you believe that? They said he was mentally ill, and called a cab to send him to the hospital. I know there are people who are mentally ill, and can still manage to take care of themselves, and I don't have a problem with that. But, what if this man accidentally hurts one of these kids, or worse? Plus, these parents have to be frantic with worry before he brings them back?

Mentally ill or not, doesn't taking children without a parent's permission count as kidnapping? I can't believe the police would just stick him in a cab and send him off to the hospital. What's to stop him from telling the cabbie to take him somewhere else after they drive off? If he had the nerve to take my daughter from a public place, I'd be furious! Especially if they just let the guy go... if they don't intend to press charges for taking the kids, the least they could do is try to get the court to order him to get help.

That is what I think. I don't have kids, but I am so mad about this. I mean, how will they even know he was let off at the hospital?

hi bd and frugal that was my thought too, how would the police know if the man ever got to a MENTALward? they should at least have seen him into a mental ward themselves. what was wrong with those cops?

AARRGGHH!!!! That's absolutely terrible. I can't imagine why the cops would let him go. There are a lot of mentally ill people out there who have done dangerous things, and wrecked a lot of lives. Mental illness should not be an excuse for enabling this kind of behaviour. This makes me sick!!

Hi there Bd, Do you have a link to this story? This is a little league team? Usually there are plenty of parents at the practices and games. Also there are the coaches. How in the world was this guy able to lure these kids away with no one noticing? And if he did, I really don't understand why he wasn't arrested. I have a friend that is mentally ill and when not on his meds he does some really crazy stuff. The local cops know him and know that he has issues. Whenever he acts out, he does get arrested and he gets police escorted to the hospital where he awaits his court date. He is still responsible for his actions. If he has caused property damage he does have to pay.

Hi, Bd2000789. With people that have mental problems as this, I never ever put anything past them. They need strict supervision! Most of these types of people that has this condition, can and will hurt someone. Then they will turn around and say that they don't remember or recall what happened. It is best that the police place him in an mental institute so that he can be watched. There may be one day that this man will take these kids and never bring them back home. If he is taking them wrongfully, he needs to be placed under arrest. Even insane people are capable of committing a crime.

Even if he is mentally ill the police need to make sure the children are protected. They should have escorted him to the hospital or had someone from the hospital come and pick him up. I would be extremely angry if he took one after my children and the police sent him in a cab to the hospital. This man needs to have proper supervision until they can come up with a way to prevent him from running off with another child.

Sorry The 3rd sentence is suppose to say: I would be extremely angry if after he took one of my children that the police sent him in a cab to the hospital.

hi BD that sounds horrible, if he is mentally ill he should be locked away where he cannot fool around with kids from the little league, he is a danger to all, as who knows what is in his mind,he may well be a pedophile and needs to be imprisoned somewhere. hopefully he is put in a mental ward to be evaluated. There had to be a reason for a mentally ill man to take those children and it probably was one a nice one. shame on the police they should have taken him directly to a mental ward, how else would they know he ever even go there?

That is very disturbing. I had a question how is he taking these kids from the little league? Are the parents not there watching or the coach? If they are just standing there letting this guy take kids they need to be arrested as well.
