Another strange question but a friend just asked me this . Can you actually cry underwater. Is it physically possible, apart from being upset, how would you know if you have been crying ? Have a tear-less day.

I can't even swim so I wouldn't know and I only cry when I am sad or when I watch a movie with one of those endings (which wouldn't happen under water I guess). Howver, when you have worked this one out I also wonder if it's possible to blow your nose under water - or do you just let it run I mean, no-one would take a hanky with them would they?

I did wonder about the runny nose bit, but didnt want to mention it, but not to worry. It's all good fun. I cant swim either, but I dont mind going in a swimming pool, moving away from sad things and runny noses, swimming is for enjoyment, so could you have tears of laughter under water. Have a healthy day.. :)

That's a point! Happy tears underwater at I a guess I would think that they do happen. It must be fun under there... missed out on that too because I shall never learn now

It is not easy trying to cry underwater since you're focusing your mind on trying to swim and not drown, but the sadness and emotion you can still feel under the water but you can't really cry. You can cry after you come up and out of the water but not while you're swimming around in it.. I heard many people who try to hide their tears in the rain or cry in their shower after they ;miss, lose someone or just simply hurting inside emotionally but the redness in their eyes is still there. I myself have not experienced crying underwater because I'm usually out having fun and swimming and enjoying the water. I would know if I been crying if I was crying with tears running down my face and my eyes sort of swelling up from crying. But I did stick my head under cold water once when I cried to test it out, but it stopped my crying till when I thought of it again. :P

I think it's because I was holding my breath too underwater. You can't really cry and hold your breath at the same time.
