The Philippines is the land of fiestas and festivals. We are a happy people and we celebrate anything under the sun. One of the things we celebrate in Marikina is the families that have taken roots here for over a hundred years. Marikina is a riverine community which was established earlier than the Spanish colonization. Because of this, a lot of the families have taken roots here. A lot of the families have nicknames such as Sili (Chili) and Kalabaw (Carabao). Today 42 clans joined the festival. What about your part of the world, do you celebrate families? If so how? Has your family resided in the same place for centuries or have you moved from one place to another?

I've never experienced going to festivals. I wish someone would take me to such events.

Really, but Filipinos love fiestas and festivals here. I always watch out for announcements from governments regarding our festivals because it will usually affect traffic here. I am sure your local government has some sort of schedule. Try watching local festivals first.

this is a great festival, one of a kind in the world (i guess). congrats to the marikina clans and organizers of this festival. it is always a celebration once a family/clan gets together. this is one big gathering of clans. it is also one way of looking back the roots of the clans, paying respect and tribute to them. enjoy time with your clan. those times are very precious.

Exactly! I like that my government value families and take the time to honor them with a parade. It is nice to reconnect with history.
