hi friends. hope there is no misunderstanding. i am not saying anything against ganguly here.its more of another type of question. it might be clear by the end of thos post. just today i read an article at cricinfo and pretty much saying ganguly is finished considering how badly his team performed and he might not be in kolkata team next year and so on and so forth. but what made me mad is the statistics they brought out. they said ganguly has been the consistent run getter for kolkata but his strike rate of 118 is not helping them and thats the reason for the lose. may be these guys should a lil upwards and they might notice something else. the second guy in the orange cap hunt is jacques kallis and guess what his strike rate is ? just 121. i dont see that much difference between 121 and 118. ganguly has been getting runs consistently for his team .sure he takes his time because he plays the anchor role and its upto the other batsmen to up the run rate. it worked for the mumbai indians and royal challengers but it didnt happen for kolkata so blame the captain. as a batsmen he shut everybody's mouth about his batting ability but with a team that does not perform, well bad luck for him

The problem is people love to criticize Ganguly. If one checks the statistics it is clear that Ganguly has won more matches for KKR in IPL3 than any other player. Gayle and McCullum failed to win matches for KKR. And their bowling lost the grip at times when they should have won the games. So even if one takes Ganguly out I wonder what KKR achieves? Unless, all the players contribute and gel together, it is not possible to win matches. So for KKR, Ganguly is not the problem, it is their lack of team effort and effective bowling attack (consistent. Mumbai Indians have a lot of good players who can turn the match single handedly and their bowling attack has some prominent players of world cricket. So they are leading the tournament. Kallis played 3 winning knocks and ably supported by others which made him look great but in the later half of the tournament he is struggling and even became the reason for the loss against DC! It is just the perception that people go with rather analyzing facts without any bias. Happy Mylotting!

Ganguly is indeed a good player and i agree that his performance in ipl 3 is far much better than 1 and 2.

Things just didnt work out for the knight riders. That is the long and the short of it.Ganguly was indeed the best player in the team so far.All his knocks were awesome and it showed that he had a lot of cricket left in him even though he retired from cricket. The comeback king that he is seems to have Lady luck on the wrong side.Hopefully things get better because it will be terrible to see a class act like him strutting down the strip and hitting the bowler off for a six to be sitting in the side lines.

ya for the team to win and reach semi and finals all the 11 members should play well. a solo performance from captain wont make the team to semis and finals. and every one says that ganguly is the only player who performed well in this season for kkr, then why should he be dropped from kolkata team? he scored runs consistently in thisa ipl, and he is the only player who played consistently in this ipl for kkr. and watch out his fielding its just amazing, i think he should have also taken the ball in his hands them the team would have reached the semis, thats the only department he left otu in this ipl, it was the missing thing for kkr to go up.

Hi stardust you are absolutely right in your assessment. There is indeed nothing wrong with the way Ganguly is batting at this IPL.However the only difference between the batting of Ganguly and Kallis is that while Kallis has other players to play around him and score some quick runs Ganguly and KKR lacked that. However there are a few errors committed by captain Ganguly. They are 1)Persisting with Ishant Sharma and thereby depriving Ashok Dinda the chance to play more games..2)Reading the pitch in Chennai wrongly and loading the team with medium pacers..3)Not able to select the best playing eleven and continuosly chopped and changed the side. However all these decisions are not Ganguly's alone but as a captain he must face the music.Let's accept that the kind of domestic players that Ganguly had except a few a majority of them are not fit to represent a cricket team at this level. However I am an optimist and I do believe that KKR will be able to form a better team in the next edition by including a few good youngstars in their ranks.

I think this year sourav performed very nice. His performance is above average. Sourav ganguly was always a favourite person for the media to talk on. When he wins they praise, when he lose they blame. But a good analyser of cricket will not blame sourav this year and I hope he will be elected again for kolkatta knight riders. hands off to him
