Banquet Decorating Ideas

In a little less than two weeks, the women in my family and I are going to an annual Mother-Daughter Banquet. There will be a nice meal, a guest speaker, a backdrop for taking group pictures, and door prizes. There will also be a table decorating contest with cash prizes for the first and second place winners. It is a win-win because those who decorate a table are given money to purchase the centerpiece and favors for those sitting at their table. The theme for this year is "A Moment in Time," and I have chosen to enter the table decorating contest! I'm really excited about it, but I've never done anything like this before. (I got married last summer, so I should be familiar with table decorating as many centerpieces as we had to create for the reception - LOL!) My table will be decorated according to my perspective of time. I'm not going to reveal any ideas I have because I'm interested to read your ideas! Those of you who may or may not have decorating experience in the past, please share your ideas with things I can do to decorate my table and perhaps even win the contest! I want it to be special because my family will be sitting at my table. I'm honored to have this opportunity, but I only have about a week and a half to come up with something. Thanks in advance for your ideas. I know MyLot will be a great help for this project!

I just read Cyrus idea and I'd like to add more to her good idea. You could do something that represented your wedding, but also your mother's wedding. The moment in time theme could be the bridge between your mother's wedding and your wedding. Do you know what I mean? Because I could just be giving bad advice.

Hey! I don't think your advice is bad at all! I really appreciate your response because it got me thinking...my family (including my mom!) will be sitting at my table. You've inspired me to do something special to incorporate my family into my table as well since this is where we will all be sitting for the banquet. I'm definitely going to be using some items from my wedding reception to decorate since a lot of them were teal, and I can use them with the whole beach theme. I want the ladies in my family to feel special, which is why I so appreciate your response in that it reminded me of the importance of incorporating them into the favors and such. Great idea - thank you!

This sounds like a lot of fun and I wish you the best of luck with it! I don't know if this would be considered a very good idea or not but why not decorate your table the same way you did for your wedding? You could consider it the time you got married. I really do like your avatar, btw. Since you seem to like the beach as much as I do, why not give it a beach theme and consider it a time when you went to the beach? I'm not really that experienced with decorating but those are just some ideas. I've decorated for parties here at the house and for Christmas. That's about the extent of my decorating experiences, lol. Kathy.

I love the beach idea! I think it's genius and appreciate how you incorporated my avatar into your response. I love the beach even though I don't live anywhere near one - LOL. I think that's exactly what I'm going to do no matter what I decide on my theme...I'm going to incorporate the beach into whatever I decide to do because I love it so much, and of course, I want my table to be "me," if you know what I mean. Thanks for the great idea! I'm definitely going to be using some leftover items from my wedding as well because one of my colors was a teal shade, which is perfect for the beach...as in, the color of the water or something. Now the fun part is going to be finding a store that sells sand and shells - LOL! Any ideas? This would be a great time to visit Florida. It'll be an interesting task since I live in Michigan. I'm so excited about my table now! This is going to be such a blast. I will definitely need to send you pictures when my table is complete! Thanks so much, Kathy!

Thank you for the best response! Thank you, also for the nice things you said here. I appreciate that very much. I didn't know for sure if my ideas were that great or not but I'm really glad you liked them. I also like southwestern themes because I'm into the cowboy way of life and horses. As I said earlier, I also like Indian stuff. Those are some ideas, too, if you like that sort of thing. Kathy.

I forgot that the theme is "a Moment in time". Sorry about that. If you have ever been to the north or southwest, this might be a good idea, too. Kathy.
