OMG!! This couldn't have been more pertinent! I think this is gross and whoever doing this doesn't really have a good taste. This is a major issue that we all are fighting for. so many lives are being killed everyday and making a mockery is not done. However, the fun element cannot be overlooked. We have to live with all kind of people, don't we?

Hi Chaitra I am hearing about this for the first time. DO not worry at all - it is some spam or maybe some one trying to frighten you. One thing is that Maoists are active in West Bengal and surrounding places so i suggest get in touch with the police or the cyber crime dept and they will take over, you could also get this published in the papers ( even local) without giving your name so that others who get similar mails do net get worried .this will be a real social service from you plus may be even the govt will look into this. All the best

No way I have ever seen this kind of spam! And I think it's hilarious and I see quite a few spelling errors in it! Who ever wanted to spam you, is just a fail! I wonder who would try and send one of these emails? Sounds really interesting that someone is threatening you. You could sue them if you find out who they are! - Fry

Surely a spam. This is the first time i read n mail like this. It's funny. The one who sent this don't even know the spelling of some words. My friend who is a software developer told me that most of the spam mails were done by Nigerians based in London. They have expertise on this field.

It is one of many "threat" mails (and a particularly nasty one). It is designed to scare people into replying in some way, I believe, in order to gather a list of email addresses to spam. Some "threat" mails say that, unless you forward the mail, you will have "bad luck" or other things will happen to you. These mails are also designed to gather email addresses but they work in a different way (as do most of the 'please forward' type mails. They are based on the assumption that most people who forward mails don't bother to remove the previous email addresses and simply put the list of addresses they are forwarding to into the To: box. This means that, as they do the rounds, they may gather several hundred valid email addresses and these mails, sooner or later, land in the inboxes of professional 'address harvesters' who collect the addresses and send them on. Other techniques for gathering addresses include putting an 'Unsubscribe' link at the bottom of mails. All legitimate marketing emails do this (as they should do) but the difference between the real ones and the false ones is that, in the real ones, you really did subscribe to a list and that your name will genuinely be removed when you unsubscribe. In the false ones, there was never any opt-in list and, by replying to the Unsubscribe link, you are simply saying "I exist and read my mail", which is very valuable information to a spammer. Be sure that your Spam folder or your Inbox will get even more unwanted mail! NEVER reply to or forward spam mail. It is best to simply delete it but if you want to take the trouble to report it, make sure that you know how to find out the server from which it was sent (which is not necessarily or usually the one in the From: address). Reporting spam mail tends to be time-consuming and unproductive!

Hi OwlWings you are right this is one of the method to gather the valid mail ids. I will complain it in the cybercrime department and will teach them a good lesson.

This email seems to be quite common nowadays! I guess virtually everyone is receiving them! I have been targeted numerous times with this type of email and I guess I just delete them all, it can be a nuisance at times. There can be literally hundreds of them going into your inbox and it can prevent other legitimate emails being received. There are so many different stories like I am about to receive a huge inheritance from a benefactor or I have won so many millions on some lottery program. I guess there will always be those trying to scam others by praying on the helpless and vulnerable! Andrew
