What determines our interest rankings in mylot.com?

I have not bothered much about my rankings so far but today a discussion has prompted me to post this question .What is it that determines our interest rankings?
1.a] Is it the number of discussions we start in a particular category of interest?
b] Is it the number of discussions we start in a particular category of interest and those that feature in the my lot digest?
2.Is it the number of discussions we responded to in a particular category of interest?
OR
3.Is it the number of best responses we have got in a particular category of interest?
I request seasoned mylotters to enlighten me in this aspect. For all the others who were unaware [like me], what did you think it referred to? I was under the impression that it might refer to the number of best responses in a category.
Now I tend to think it may be the number of discussions we start in a particular category and those that feature in the "my lot digest".

Hello Kala!
I think SV has well elaborated the point. I also do not know the nitty gritty of our 'interest ranking'. I occasionally check my ranking and I do not mind the position/ranking allotted to me, as long as I enjoy the discussion on a particular 'interest' group.

Kala!
I really 'miss' my friends' discussions, when I find myself unable to participate, due to one reason or the other. I have been keeping busy lately, therefore, find less time for mylotting. I cannot promise whether I am going to run away.......or stay
I am doing fine, all are fine at home.
No holidays plans as such as kids are busy in their studies and this time due to ensuing 'commonwealth games' 'summer vacation' would be shorter, here in Delhi.

I'm not sure how it works. Another friend of mine on mylot...who had started an interest on mylot (he was the first one to even coin the name of the interest) and he had started the maximum number of discussions in the topic..responded to each and every comment and kept the discussions alive....and also responded to those of others in the interest group...was not ranked No.1!! Almost all his discussions came up in the digest too. In fact, he had even started a discussion wondering why he wasn't no.1 in his own interest group citing all the above mentioned reasons (I know for a fact that it's all true).
So, in short, I have clue what the criteria is and I don't even know my rankings in each interest group.

This is what I've noticed recently of my ranking. A friend started a discussion introducing a new interest. I joined in that interest after responding. An interest to cover discussions which doesn't fit in to any of the available interests in mylot. I started 2 discussions on this neutral interest called 'open mike'. Both discussions appeared in the digest on different days. I was surprised that my rank in that interest shoot up to No.1 while the initiator of this interest is no. 2. There is certain criteria how the ranking works here like responses received, discussion appearance in digest etc...

Personally I think there are a lot of factors that go with this for sure. I know it really often depends on your star rating, as well as how often you respond back to a Topic the way people rate you there as well. I think there is no one real thing anyone can really point back too, but anytime you find yourself in the Top 10 especially if it is a Popular category like this one, you are doing really well for sure. But did you ever notice sometimes some of the people listed in the Top 10 have not been active in here for a long long time as well.

Many people are not active here and there are a set of new people coming fast. But I was not aware of what you had mentioned because normally I rarely check a profile unless when I get afriend request or when some response catches my attention and I want to add a friend.THank you for the participation.

Although I have no clue how it is calculated, I did notice when they first started ranking the interests that I got higher rankings in interests with which I had little personal experience and low rankings in my areas of expertise...accordingly, I stopped bothering to look at those rankings...rfl.

Hi Kala dear,
I think all of these aspects mentioned by you are determining the rank under one particular interest. If you start more topics on one particular interest it will help to you raise your ranking and if you get more number of responses it also helps (if the topic get in digest will get more number of responses). Best responses also have an important role. If we can’t start topics under the particular interest instead we can active with that particular interest by giving responses, it will help us to maintain our ranking. Rating is also important to get a higher ranking.
These are my own observations in mylot ranking system.

Hi kalav! I have no idea how it all works and, honestly, I don’t bother with it at all! I am here to post and respond and make a few pennies so rankings are not my concern. I’ve heard people talking about them but I don’t understand them. I’ve just gone to my profile and took a look at my rankings and I still don’t get it! All I know about is that every now and again someone may award a best response and that’s about it!
