920212, In the first place, social networking sites are actually meant to bring individuals or groups with common interests or social relations together for interaction and socializing. It was never meant to bring any harm or bad influence to anyone including children. However, like all good things once it is being used with some premeditated vile intention, it will just bring about every disrepute, adverse effects, bad influence and harm to the user. As you would know and understand that social networking sites basically require to be connected via the internet to facilitate its basic networking functions, they are not to be easily regarded as some child's toy. With a broad spectrum of people online, these social networking sites should never be left to immature children without guidance, supervision and most of all close scrutiny. Close scrutiny because there should be nothing private as far as children are concern and that it is with such scrutiny that adult parents could help children from falling into harms way. So, these sites would not bring bad influence to children, provided it is being used under close parental supervision.

All media and social interactions can expose children to negative influences. The important thing is to teach them to know better than to follow everything they see or everything their friends do, and to make sure they don't accept friends requests from paedophiles.

No, I don't think social network itself can influence children. Actually it has a lot do with other members. Although most of these networks want to bring people of walks of life in one place through different sources, some users often manipulate it for their own gains. I mean look at some webcam girls. They use the site for their business purpose. Social network itself has nothing to do with that.

I feel social networking hardly contributes for the negative influence on children. They already have TV and the whole world wide web for negative influencing!
