When I'm feeling blue, I seem to always turn to food for a little additional comfort. The first thing I think of is a nice big bowl of mashed potatoes with loads of gravy. I don't know why, but, it sure seems to help. So I will make up some just to help chase the blues away. How about you? Do you have a favorite comfort food? Do you like to cook it?

My comfort food is chocolate or anything made with chocolate.I have always loved cakes, not only eating but baking them.I love to make myself a nice cake when I feel low.Chocolate is said to impart a feel-good factor to anyone who eats it.I learned this fairly recently but it has always calmed me down.I like to cook too when I feel low.And I like to be alone when I am sad,so cooking/baking my favourite chocolate cake helps me to battle my feelings/confusions.

LOL. Unfortunately, it is my husbands recipe and he doesn't even have it written down. We used to own a Tea and Coffee shop and the Triple Chocolate cake was his specialty. Every once in a while, I can get him to make it for me. Usually though, it has to be for a birthday party or something. Oh, well, hey at least there are other ways to get a chocolate fix as well. :)

Now you have my mouth watering for a Triple Chocolate Cake. A huge wedge of it with a large glass of milk. That would really hit the spot right now. I should have remembered chocolate as another great favorite and pick-me-up. :) Enjoy!

I think I'd rather buy food than prepare it when feeling blue...I don't know why, but it seems that I've changed these days. I buy myself lots of junkfoods, and a big bottle of diet coke. it really cheers me up.

What ever can pick you up. :) I'm glad that you have found a way to do so. What kind of junk food? Or does it matter? I'm sure if you are like the many of us junk food nuts, it can be almost anything. If it looks good, it goes in the cart.

Okay, I have to admit, I don't always find comfort in foods I make. I do find those wonderful bits of junkfood comforting as well. Give me a handful of orange slice candies, how about a giant chocolate bar. YUM!

Oh, we're the exact opposite in this sense. I don't like to cook when I'm feeling blue, neither does cooking like me in those days because the food will taste bland or overly seasoned. I'd rather sleep in those days rather than eat. Everyone in my family would know that I'm not having a great day when they taste my food. Similarly, they would notice that I'm happy when I am cooking. I guess it's just how I am. I can't cook when I don't feel well or if something is bothering me. I just can't find the zest into it. But when I'm happy, I love to cook. But when I'm feeling blue I want others to take care of me which is why hugs and just living me alone is a great way to spend my 'blue day'. As for food I want to eat in those days. Anything goes because my palette seems in-existent on those days.

Yeah, coz when I'm depressed, I doubt I could even follow the slightest instruction or measurements hehehehe...

I think it actually depends on how depressed I am, if it is just the early stages, then I don't mind cooking, if I am in the middle or bottom of the barrel of it, forget it, off to find junk food at the nearest store. I would much rather open a bag of something rather than having to pull out all the ingredients to make something. However, If I am cooking to wash away the blues, I usually go for something quick and simple in some aspects. It all just depends.

Whenever I am upset I bake cookies. I find comfort in baking cookies. With my husband being diabetic I use Splenda instead of regular sugar. I also love to make macaroni and cheese. Lately, I have been feeling kind of depressed. I also come on here for comfort.

Awww. Yes, love Splenda, great product to use when you are baking and need to cut the sugar intake, even if you aren't diabetic. I am on a diet where I am not allowed to have a lot of sugar. I use Splenda pretty regularly. Mac and cheese is another wonderful comfort food. I like to whip up some once in a while. I am glad you are finding comfort in Mylot, it is a good place to get your mind off of things going on in your own world and see if you can help someone else in theirs or give suggestions on different subjects.

I have to agree Krispy Kreme doughnuts can be great for a pick me up and addicting. You can't just have one. I especially like the Long Johns filled with the cream. Oh, those really hit the spot with a nice cup of hot tea or coffee. When I lived in New Mexico, we used to have a Krispy Kreme down the road from my home. Alas, they had to close it. Great doughnuts, especially when you could get there really early in the morning. Of course there was a long line to wait in.

Spaghetti with homemade bolognese sauce. Chocolate helps, too :)

Oh, yes, spaghetti is another good one. If I'm not in the mood to cook, spaghetti is a great comfort food to whip up in a jiffy. Lots of chocolate, dark chocolate is perfect when you are in a down mood. Then again, chocolate in general is good any time. lol

I have too many comfort foods and I do like to cook. I like soup, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, and, yes, mashed potatoes, especially with meatloaf and gravy.

You have the right idea. I actually have a drawer where I have some chocolates hidden. Once in a while I dip into my supply. Perfect to have when you need that quick pick me up. Then again, a nice big bowl of chocolate ice cream is another good comfort food. Heck, many flavors of ice cream. Butter Pecan, Rocky Road, French Vanilla with lots of chocolate sauce. Now I think I need to run to the grocery store.
