Have you ever participated in a paper swap?

I have just signed up for my first one. Sounds kinda like a chain letter, only better! lol You receive the box of paper, pull out what you want, add same number of paper as you keep, and then mail it to the next person on the list. Sounds like fun, and a cool way to swap out paper you are tired of or just won't use. And get new stock in return. I was just wondering if any of the other scrapbookers here have participated in this type of swap. If so, how did it go? If not, is it something you would partcipate in?

Have never done a paper swap like that. Sounds like it could get kind of expensive to mail a box of paper around. We do have a group here at the office I work in that get together and swap and trade supplies. I have donated some stuff to the person that heads it up of extra stuff that I no longer needed. But I guess the fact that the person that heads the group up sell Creative Memories, so she has a real intrest in keeping us scrapbooking.

When we used to have crops at my daughter's, we would set up a table for swapping. It was always fun, and you felt like you were getting new supplies free, kinda lol. The swap will be set up so that you are sending the box on to the closest one to you, to keep the cost down, and I suppose it depends on how many sheets are in the original swap box, because that number won't really change. You are putting in the same number of sheets as you take out.

I use to exchange stationary with some of my tape/pen pals years ago, but I have never exchanged scrap booking paper, but it sounds like it would be a great idea. Usually you might only want a couple of sheets for one theme, so if you have extra it would be great to swap it out. We use to have so much fun when we exchanged stationary, and if this is anything like that, it would be well worth it!!

Only problem with this kind of swap is the postage. Enough paper to make it worth while means more weight and that means more postage. I have done paper piecing swaps tho and those were great. That was pretty fun and we got lots of great PP's.

Wow! That sounds really fun but how much money does it cost to mail this package? I see you mail it to the next person. Paper can be get heavy. We should do something like that with my local scrapbooking guild.

The most cost effective way to do it would be to use the flat rate boxes. With those it does not matter about the weight of the box, it just costs one flat rate. I haven't been able to start a paper swap as I have been very busy this past year. However, I will be hosting some all day crops and scrapbooking retreats later this year.

What had in elementary was we call "barter", meaning I will exchange my special papers with my friends' special papers as well. For example, if I have a very nice and unique color of that paper with a nice scent, and my friends don't have anything like it, they need to give me a sheet of scented special paper first before I could give them mine.

I've heard of sticker chains but not paper ones. What a great idea! I'd love to take part in one but i think it may be quite expensive to mail packages of paper. I often find that I buy a set of paper for a particular page or two and the rest of it just builds up in my craft bag. It'd be neat to create a chain and see what other people are working with and to finally find a use for the pages that are building up that I probably won't ever use myself.

Sticker chains makes more sense to me. You can put several stickers into an envelope and mail that for much less than a packet of paper. And you can also send various embellishments that flat and inexpensive.
