Going to the park can be dangerous

I was down in Stockton, CA over the weekend to celebrate Cambodian New Years and a friend of the family was telling me the craziest story. She was telling me about how dangerous this park near her son's house was. Apparently, it's dangerous to show up in the park wearing blue or red colored clothing. You might get mistaken for a gang member (Blood or Crip) and get beaten up or something. She also told me that the kids that hang out there (teenagers to young adults) would come up to you and pretty much interrogate you. The sad thing is that it is such a common thing that the people there aren't even phased by it. I was really shocked to hear about this because things like this does not happen where I live.
Does anyone else here have a dangerous place like this in your town and how do you deal with it?

It's more or less the same in my province. Although there, it doesn't matter what you're wearing. If you hang out on other gang's spot you can be mistaken as a member. The bad thing is i don't know the spots they hang out with so whenever i'm strolling around i don't stand by on one spot just to be safe.

That's even worst than that scenario I mentioned. I would hate to live somewhere like that. It sounds scary because you can be an innocent person minding your own business and the next thing you know you get jumped for being a supposed enemy or something. But your idea isn't too bad. I hope you don't go strolling around by yourself all the time time. It would be safer to have another person with you, wouldn't it?

I live in a small town and going to park is not so dangerous, but It is always risk to meet with a bunch of junks, if you are alone. Anyway, I don't think about this when I think to go out alone for clearing my mind.

I'm in the same boat. My town isn't too small but I've never had to deal with something like this when going to the park before. I don't even know if there are gangs or other groups in this area since I don't get out much. But it could still be dangerous. There have been a few incidents where someone was stabbed and even one with a group of teens beating up and killing a homeless man.

Wow that is terrible. There are no parks around here that are like that thankfully. I take my kids to this one local park and its always dirty because the garbage can is all the way across the field in the baseball dugout. They need one by the playground where the pavilion and picnic tables are. People just leave the garbage all over the place since they are to lazy to walk across the field to put the garbagevin the one garbage can in the whole park. Its a nice little park so its dissapointing how dirty it gets. Theres been dirty diapers full of urine under the picnic tables. Yesterday there was a tampon applicator in the grass next to the playground. There is no reason for that because there is a portajohn there.
