Doesn't Widmore know that Locke/smoke monster can't be killed with explosives?

All Widmore is doing by firing explosives at Locke is killing those around him. A bunch of people with him were killed and Jack was shaken and had his ears ringing and Locke was totally unscathed. So now what will Widmore do with Sawyer and his group who sailed to the small island?
