alright l'm sick and tired of know-it-all talking about how Cameron stole the story of pocahontas and made avatar. And trying to find ridiculous proofs of that.
Let's do some reality check.
Pocahotas was released on the 23rd of June 1995
Avatar was supposed be done by the year 1999. Which means that by '95 James Cameron had done most if not all of the work on the AVATAR story.
So don't go babbling on about stuff you aren't sure about.

well i think this started in the internet, seen a picture of pochahontas script purposely changes some words and it turned into avatar.
well even if it is a rip it is still good.
well if you think about it everything can be a rip of anything, example herbie talking car= cars also talking cars.

There are two facts here and the first is Pocahontas is a tale from the 16th century and prior to the Disney animated version on the story it had been used before in the movies. The point people are trying to make when comparing Avatar to Pocahontas or Dances With Wolves is that the underlying storyline isn't in fact original because it is very similar to storylines used in other movies.

I was just discussing this with my husband. He had seen in the theaters and I just saw on DVD for the first time last night. Ok, story wise it is similar to Pocahontas or Dancing With Wolves, regardless when it came out. Yet, there are differences in all those stories in the film presentations that make each of them "unique". But visually Avatar is by far "different" and it's the next step towards filmmaking. Apparently the theater experience in seeing Avatar was amazing - besides it also being 3D. In an artists point of view, a lot of us think the look of the movie was taken from the art of Roger Dean, who was not credited for any part of Avatar (I think) - so that's another controversy about the movie.

It does have a similarity- but it never crosses my mind. I love that movie and it was unique and pretty cool. Thanks for the proof though.
