I'm curious to know if you combined bank accounts after marriage? yes or no? And what are your reasons for what you chose?

We have a joint account and I have a seperate account for my bills that I keep seperate from our regular household expenses. The joint account is for regular household expenses and bills and like I said, I keep my account seperate so I don't have to take household money out to pay my bills. My bills are a few credit cards I'm trying to get paid off.

thanks for the response! This is what I'm finding so intriguing... how we (me included) are married "joined as one" and still view certain things as "mine".

Yeah I don't mean to make it sound like 'mine' but it's easier to keep my credit card stuff seperate that way. I have those payments set on autodraft so I can just put the money in and not have to fool with it until the next month.

I don't really understand why there is such a myth with joint or non-joint accounts? If you marry someone who you don't trust you're not going to allow him/her legally to withdraw money from either account which is join or non-joint. In my country for instance there are no joint-accounts but you can authorize whoever you want to be able to withdraw money from your own account. My now husband, i started to live with him while he was my bf, was authorized even then for my account and I was for his. This is also my current situation, so I really don't understand why people are in marriage if they don't trust their partners.

Its okay to have joint bank accounts even after marriage. You can use it for your children's needs or any expenditures which you might both need.
