If you happen to have the money to buy a laptop is it advisable to buy a brandnew laptop or just buy a second hand instead? I mean a friend of mine told me its better to buy a second hand for as long as it is not that damaged or still up to date.He told me that life span of certain laptops dont last that long so buying brandnew is not that much advisable. What bout you? what will you go for? a brandnew or just buy a well conditioned second hand?

I have gotten both a brand new and a refurbished laptop in the past. i would say that whatever works best for you is what you should buy. I prefer getting a new one but they can be expensive so if you are on a budget there is nothing wrong with buying a used laptop as long as you know it is coming from a trusted place. Alot of computer stores now sell refurbished electronics and that would be the best place to get one I believe.

I agree maybe it depends on how will you be using your laptop a friend of mine bought a second hand laptop not just because its cheap but he will just give it to his son who wants to have one. Now if your the one whose going to use it then maybe you should be getting a new one instead. Yes it can be a lil bit expensive but in the end its going to be worth it

Exactly, if its just a younger brother whose still a kid whose goin to use the said laptop then better start looking for second hand laptops unless you really want to give your brother those expensive ones and then crashing it after a few days lol

Yes I know I wouldnt want that happening to a new laptop that I just bought. I would feel alot better about giving a child a simple older model that was refurbished since they probably wont be needing the laptop for much anyways except maybe homework or to play games and such.. They dont need it for business or anything so it doesnt need to e fancy.

hmmmm... it may depend on the situation of the second hand laptop of why the owner decided to sell it. If it is because the owner wanted to buy a new one or need cash for something else and the laptop is very fine then go for it. Buy it... of course you'll buy it on cheaper price. Moreover, if it is not that old and can manage the current versions of software. But of course if you'll buy a brand new one then you can have the latest model and computer specifications. Thus, for you, I recommend to buy the second hand provided with the reasons above before buying the new ones. Well, computers are just the same. You can upgrade the old ones. The latest models may have features which can be unnecessary for your work. Just a waste of computer memory in a sense... Finally and again, you can buy second hand in a lower price (which is the same with the new ones only without the latest specs)

You have a point if the seller is just selling the said item because he or she needs money then its goin to be worth it for sure. I often see alot of people selling their gadgets nowadays not because its obsolete already but because they just need money. If your wiser you might end up buying the same specs at a very much cheaper price. Thanks for sharing!

It probably boils down to what is more affordable at the time. My son in law bought a second hand laptop about 4 years ago and has never had a problem with it. He only paid $200 for it, and the savings over a brand new one was incredible. I think it is important, though,to make sure you're dealing with a place that has a good reputation. My s-i-l does a lot of computer work for area folks, ie: removing virus's, installing programs, finding the bugs and working it out. One thing he noticed is that a lot of people out there get rid of fairly new computers (desktop or laptop) because it's 'running slower than it did when I bought it.' And he found that those same people would have their computers be fine if they'd just clean their caches once in a while and run anti-viral programs. Hehe, he's gotten some great computers for our family that way. Anyways, I think used is just fine most of the time.

Yeah, me too i bought my very first laptop from a friend of mine who just used it for two months. Thats why i saved alot too. And up until now im not having any problems using it but i need to buy a new one because i need to give this one to my sibling. .Yup if i will be going to a trusted store when it comes to second hand electronics like laptops i might see some pretty good deals. Thanks for joining and to your suggestion

My advise would be to forget the laptop and get a desktop. My son always says that laptops are like throw away computers. I guess because of the upgradableness of them. Example with a desktop you can open the tower and change anything inside of it to upgrade. Not so with a laptop. However, if you need or want a laptop as a second computer i would say buy new. I personally dont like buying anything electronic that is used.

If you cant have both a desktop and a laptop as a second computer. The facts that you say you need it for work purposes i would for sure suggest a new one.

Actually i heard a friend of mine telling me the same thing. Why settle for a laptop where in you can just get a desktop? He told me the same reason that desktops are easy to upgrade while laptops are mostly impossible to do so.But the thing with me is im highly mobile and there are alot of times that i need to bring my laptop with me to keep up with my job.But if im not mobile then i will agree with the reasons that you gave me why i should pick desktop instead.

Whatever feels best for you is what matters. I had bought a new laptop a few years ago and it lasted my about 5 years, cost me a bit too. The laptop i have now is a secondhand unit and it works just fine for what I needed it for, and I supose it was a lot cheaper. I dont know what this one cost, it was a gift from my folks. I feel it all comes down to the features youre looking for and what is a reasonalbe price. good luck

Thats cool, get a new toy and make your brother happy at the same time, as long as you're not giving him something thats starting to break down. I did that to my ex I gave her my old HP, bout 5 years old, the screen was just starting to lose connections in the hinges, lol, she didnt seem to care tho. I got a Dell refurbished now, was an xmas gift from my parents, works just fine for my uses. Have a great day

Yup your right, what really matters is that you consider your own preference. In my part i will be buying one so that i will be able to give my present laptop to my brother. That way im getting a new while giving my brother his very first laptop too. Thanks for sharing and have a great day

There's nothing wrong with a used laptop if it functions to your taste, but dont expect that you will be able to install the latest software. Your LAPTOP WILL DIE ON YOU if you do that. I personally prefer buying a new one. at the rate that computers are changing, by the time you've realized that you need a better laptop (like in 6 months or less) the laptop you could've bought 6 months ago would be the lowest end for sale and your second hand laptop could be put in the museum. granting that you haven't banged in on the wall in frustration. and my last advice would be, there's a reason why it's for RE-SALE. think about it.

I thought bout it too like i told myself that id rather be safe by just buying the brand new one but if your in short of funds or wants to save alot like me lol . You might want to check if you have some friends who recently own a laptop and wants to sell it for a much cheaper price .Now if you dont then i think we should both go to the nearest pc center or what to buy a new one instead. To save us the trouble of having to repair it over and over again if its a second hand

If you have the money and can afford a new Laptop why on earth would you even think for a second to buy a used one? Makes no sense! If, as you friends says, the life span of a PC is short why spend money on a PC that may be just weeks away from dying of old age.!!!

Its just that even if i have the money its not that easy to buy those kinds of stuff nowadays, specially i come from a 3rd world country where in life is pretty much hard, thats why even if you have the resource you still need to think alot before doing or buying something.Actually the reason why im buying is because my brother wants to have a laptop of his own. Now the best remedy that i can see is that i will be giving my old one to my brother and just but a new one for myself. Less worries and everybody happy

Repair and maintenance of any laptop can be very expensive. So it is better to buy a brand new laptop. It will not only perform well for a longer time but also give you a better sense of satisfaction.

Yup, one of the bad side of buying something second hand is that your prone to have it fixed from time to time. Its more like using the saved money you get for buying second hand by going to the fix centers most of the time. If you want to save yourself from this kind of trouble might as well buy a new one so that everything will be fine

brand new laptop is of course more better than second hand since its new so im sure you will not going to have problem with it and you will know that it will last long as long as you take care of it. in second hand, you have no idea if theres hidden damage or defects in the laptop as it might be ok for few months but suddenly it crushed out or theres a problem with the hard drive or other parts of the laptop due to usage, even if you take care of it but once the laptop broke down then you need to buy new parts of it and its expensive, its just like your buying a new laptop. so if you have enough money then go ahead and buy new instead, if you dont have enough money then 2nd hand is better than nothing.

Thank you for giving me a good idea, yeah buying a new laptop will be the best option that is if you dont want to be troubled by buying second hand units. The thing is im just going to give my last laptop to my brother and then i will buy my new one. Thanks for replying and have a great day

It depends on your budget and what you need the laptop for. A laptop is like a car, depreciates fast and is a drain on your budget. A well-maintained second-hand laptop will work as well as a brand new one. If it's just for surfing and e-mailing, I suggest that you get the second-hand one. The advantage is that this machine has been put to its paces by the previous owner, so you know its not a lemon.

Yup and the main thing why im thinking bout getting a second hand laptop is because it will just be needed by my brother which in this situation hes just going to use it for gaming purposes, so i was thinking if i will be buying a new one then im just going to give him my old one.Same results i was able to give my brother a quality laptop because im the last owner of it , then i have myself a brand new laptop too.Hitting two birds at the same time

Well it depends on what you like, and what can you afford. And using a laptop brand new or not depends upon the way we used and take care of it.

The brandnew laptop is the best. You just need to see the specification and see your budget. Buy the best one not buy the cheapest one... Brand new laptop is the best for you. The second hand maybe cheaper but, I think it's not that good like the new one.

Yup what you said is right second hand may be cheaper but when it comes to condition and other all aspects brand new is way better. Im thinking of buying a new one indeed and then im just going to give my old one to my little brother instead. That way i will be able to hit two birds at the same time with less the effort lol

I'd buy a new laptop, if I could. It depends on where you got the old laptops but I feel that like a used car, you never know what truly happened between the machine and its owner. There might be virus and worms lurking inside the machine that the antivirus software could not get rid of.

Yeah, there are certain risks that you need to look at when buying second hand stuff, like the owner might have exposed it to alot of viruses and other bad stuff as well. Then one more thing is that it might not have a good condition when it comes to its hardwares. But at the same time you have to consider as well the usage of the said thing that you will be buying. Like if its going to be used for leisure then might as well try to find a cheaper one, but if your going to use it for business then by all means buy a new one for safety reasons.

hi,swtsuna26 I believe if u have money to buy a new laptop than you should go for anew one as new one will be completely yours ie..i mean if you buy a new laptop than you will only be a person who will operate it but if you buy secondhand you wont know how the person from whom you are buying laptop have used it and also may not know if there are any problems in the laptop.....hop my this advice may help u somewhat...!

Thanks lovemonty413 i also think if you really have the resource then you need to buy the brand new already, because you can be sure bout the quality and the new one is guaranteed of some warranty's too .I am thinking of buying a new one and then giving my old one to my little brother instead of buying a second hand laptop

it depends on the second hand laptop if it is still in good running condition, why pay for more???? but for me, I would go for new laptop, you would save yourself from paying on repairs and installations, and you would know every details that you install in your laptop.

You got that right! if its pretty much in good condition then by all means its better to settle for a second have to save alot of money. But if you wont be able to find a good conditioned laptop then save yourself as well from the burden of having to fix your second hand laptop most of the time. Thanks or sharing and have a great day!

I think it would just be better for you to buy a new laptop. That way you can have a warranty to help repair it or maybe the store will offer a money back guarantee if the laptop winds up breaking down over a certain period of time. Then you could return it to the store for a full refund or have them repair the problem for you.

When you buy a new laptop well you can expect nothin but good attritubes into it, unless you choose to buy those old units still lol.Its just that once in a while we find worthy 2nd hand units that we can give to our brothers like mine... Hes asking me to buy him one but i dont think a brand new laptop will be of good use to a hight schooler who likes playing alot of games instead of using it for educational purposes lol

Hi friend, I will always prefer going for new laptop. My logic is if any owner of laptop is selling his laptop, it must not be performing satisfactorily, otherwise one will not sell. So I will always prefer new one. In fact i do not believe in buying anything second hand!

Actually once in a while there are items that are worth buyin like laptops or even certain phones. You just need to find the right seller and find the right item to buy.Like in my case i need to buy my brother a laptop but i know as well that he will just be using it for gaming purposes so i intent to just buy a second hand or buy myself a new one then give him my old one lol

purchasing a second hand laptop according to me is not suitable. We sale item either for purchasing a new upgraded model or if the existing one is having problem. It will depend on the user how he/she used the laptop. before purchasing second hand laptop I would like to suggest you to check that one with a good system engineer. Once I was interested to buy a 6 months old laptop. I brought it at home for testing, I found the battery was giving just 15 mints backup. So I didn't buy that. For me its better to buy a brand new laptop if financially don't have any problem. Electronics Items are good to buy fresh & new. Thank you.

I got your point when it comes to electronice gadgets they easily wear and tear.Thats why if we will be buying second hand we need to know if they will be worth our money or at least know what kind of use we will be using them. For example if you will just be buying one for gaming purposes then maybe it wont hurt to look and find a good conditioned second hand laptop

The only thing that you should be asking yourself is that "Am i willing to spend money for a new laptop?" If you are willing then go for it. If not, then settle for a second hand. However a brand new is good since hardware parts are subjected to Wear and Tear. Meaning their performance are reduced overtime. Thus a brand new laptop would always be faster. However in choosing a laptop you should match it with your personality and how you use it. Speed in this case is measured by your expectation of FAST. But make sure that your that your hardware specifications would be generally accepted as FAST.

Got it! if its really needed then go for the brand new but if your budget is seemingly low and its not that important to change your laptop then you might want to settle for those second hand ones just go for those good conditioned 2nd hand units

I would say buy a new one if it is in your budget. The new computer is a clean slate and therefore, there is nothing left over from the previous owner. But, if you can not swing a new laptop, get a second hand laptop from someone or somewhere you trust. I have recently upgraded to a new laptop, but I have an older laptop which is going to probably get refurbished. And I'm giving that one to my boyfriend.

Actually thats what im thinking bout, i mean buying a new one instead so that i wont have any issues about warranties and other stuff like going to the technician just for it to be fixed. And then im just going to give the older one to my lil brother who needs one .Instead of buying him a new laptop i will just give him my old one and buy myself another
