Seat, a cheaper version of VW or a standalone brand ?

I own a Seat Cordoba since 2006, 150 000 km right now, without major problems. Indeed all the parts are from VW group and coast less than a VW same class but it doesn't feel cheaper, good quality of materials, way better design than VW in my opinion. The VW group said that Seat will be sport brand of the group, it is sportier indeed, but the people says that Seat is the poor sister of VW. What is your opinion, if you have or ever owned a Seat ?
